Hi all you fellow texans! I'm a future nursing student, and I live in the Dallas area.
Hi and good luck to you in school!!
I am an ADN student in Waco. Due to graduate in May 2005. It's the most challenging thing I have ever done and I really do like it!!
My best advice would be to hang in there, find a few friends in class with you, and don't get BEHIND!!!
Again, GOOD LUCK and feel free to PM me if you want!!
I am in the Dallas/Ft. Area, and I am going back to school to be an RN. I have been awarded a scholarship, so I have a job waiting. :)
I have worked as a CMA, and the highest pay I received was $11 w/o benefits offered. So, starting out anywhere near $20 an hour will be a good feeling.
Since it has been over 10 years, I have to take my A&P class over again to apply for the nursing school. I plan on going to North Lake College, or El Centro. If the scholarship gets set up in time, I will start back to the life of studying in January, 2005.
Good luck to all of you starting out, and to you new grads! :)
I live in Midland, Texas (100,000 population). Salary starts $17.50 for a new grad. Low cost of living. This is a great website.
Hey! I am living in Odessa, so howdy neighbor!!! What area are you working in? I'm doing psych, which is pretty rare in this area. Agree with your salary estimate for new grads.

Howdy to you, Neighbor!
I'm in San Angelo getting ready to graduate in May from Angelo State with my ADN.
I'm doing the psych rotation this semester also...I never thoguht I'd want to work at a psych hospital, but now I'm thinking it might not be so bad. What do you think of it?
Good luck to you!!

LOVE IT!!! Never liked doing much of anything else in nsg... it is a specialty onto itself that you either can or cannot do. The only drawback is the lack of opportunities here in West TX but maybe that will change eventually. If you think you like it and do well in it go for it and good luck to you too!
:)

Hey Dreamon,
I am orignially from New York, Westchester County to be exact....and I live in Corpus Christi.. I've been to San Antonio and Houston...and this is what I can tell you...you'll probably like Houston more than San Antonio...Houston has a big city atmosphere and is more dirty than NYC (can you believe that! :chuckle ), not that the latter will be a plus for you to move there...San Antonio is a bit smaller, cleaner, and has more charm. Email me and I'll tell you more...can't write much now...
