  1. We use Baylor Irving as a clinical site for my program (I'm at UTA). I've only heard good things about this hospital. I volunteered in the ICU before I started nursing school, and the nurses were great to me. I don't know anything about the other sites though. Good luck to you in your classes.
  2. Best: Having a patient tell me that I treated her better than any of the other staff at the hospital. Worst: Freezing up during my ER rotation when the physician asked if any of us wanted to help with chest compressions. I felt like the biggest fool.
  3. I agree with the above posters. I just finished my first semester, and our math tests were all on dosage calculations and I.V. drip rates. We will have more math tests each semester. Go to Barnes and Noble and look in the section for nursing---you will be able to find many books on dosage calculations etc. Good luck to you---hold on, the first semester flies by.
  4. I HATE THESE CHECK OFFS!!!!!!! We had one today, and it was so stressful. Some people were crying after they finished because of how mean the testers were being---one in particular. Why do we let ourselves get so nervous and stressed out? The good news----I passed. Woohoo!!!!!!!:) How have y'all's check-offs been going? p.s. the semester is half way over!!!!!!!!
  5. I looked up the mnemonic we used for the nerves and here it is... On Occasioun, Our Trusty Truck Acts Funny--Very Good Vehicle AnyHow.
  6. I can't remeber the one that I used for the nerves, but the one I used to remember if they are motor, sensory, or both is this Some Say Marry Money, But My Brother Says it is Bad Biz to Marry Money. I'll have to go look up the one for the nerves. Hope this helps.
  7. We don't use each other for skills check offs, but we do use each other for assessment. For skills check offs we use the dummies in the lab.
  8. Hey Debbie---most schools in this area will not accept patho from any school but theirs. The first semester at UTA is: Concepts of Professional Nursing Holistic Health Assesment with clinical Parmacology in Nursing Practice Pathologic Processes Clinical Nursing Foundations with clinical and lab TWU doesn't require patho as a pre-req, you can take it before hand, but I'm pretty sure that they require their class. I can give you the names of the people to talk to at UTA, TWU, or Baylor if these are schools that you are interested in applying to. Just let me know. Good luck to everyone this semester!!!!!!!!
