  1. I will be taking the NCLEX tomorrow at 0800. Wish me luck!! I was surprised to find that my GN was already posted on the Texas BON website as of 05/21/05. I graduated on 05/10/05. Things moved much quicker than I expected!!
  2. I will be graduating in May 2005. I really enjoy working with the geriatric population, and rehab patients. would an LTC/REHAB facility be a good place to begin my career? What would an RN do in LTC other than management? I am in Texas. Any info or advice would help!!
  3. I am 39 and will graduate with my associates in nursing in May. There are older students in class with me also. You aren't too old!! Go for it if iit is what you want!! I can't help you with schools because I am in Texas. Good luck with your career change!! :)
  4. Do you need info on the IV meds themselves? Is it the skills you are asking about? We have to have an IV med book at clinicals. I also have a nursing procedures book. Your Nursing (Fundamentals) text should explain the procedures.
  5. I will be graduating in May 2005 and am thinking of working in Austin. I live in Waco now, but could relocate later on. Does anyone know about the pay rate for GN's at Brackenridge, or Seton? Are you able to do 12 hour shifts as a new grad? Any info would be appreciated!!
  6. I am in my third semester of an ADN program and feel very incompetent as far as time management is concerned. I would appreciate any advice on staying organized in the clinical setting and managing more than one patient at a time!!
  7. I am in the program now and I don't have any complaints. I will be starting semester 3 this summer and graduating in May of 05. It is very challenging. Are you already accepted? Will you be bridging? Let me know!!
  8. If you don't have to work while going to school then I would recommend you just focus on school. It just may be the most challenging thing you've ever attempted to complete. I am 38 and it is for me. Good luck to you!!
  9. This sounds very interesting! I am just finishing my second semester and will do some research on this for future reference. Thanks for sharing with us!!
  10. Actually I do seem to identify with people that have MH/MR type problems. I came from a very dissfunctional background and have worked really hard dealing with my own issues!! I guess that would mean that I am a little crazy myself!! So if you are right I should do fine!! :rotfl:
  11. I have a job offer for a psych tech job at a local in patient facility and would like info on how to prepare in advance for the position. I am a second semester student. The job will start in May. I was also wondering if you tend to loose your skills as a psych RN? The field of psych nursing really interests me and I feel I will like the position. I am just wondering about the job market and the possibility of having to change later on and not being able to perform as a Med-Surg RN at that point.
  12. I have a lot of trouble with beds also!! I guess I figured I was the only one--I am glad I am not!!
  13. Has anyone heard of an effective herbal alternative for ADHD treatment? My son has ben dx with ADHD and has been on stim. therapy for about 1.5 years now. He is 7 and is very intelligent but his symptoms are so severe that he can't focus on his school work without medication. I really hate the side effects he has and would like for him to be able to function without stim. meds. Would appreciate any replys!! He has already tried Straterra, ritalin, concerta, and now adderall. He has a "tic" disorder on all stimulants so far and straterra won't work on the hyperactivity or the attention def.
  14. Thank you Aimee--I have just spent the last hour and 1/2 reading, and enjoying those journal articles. I am very interested in Hospice nursing. At this point I am in my first semester of RN school and hope to work in the hospice feild when I am finished with school. Thanks Again!!
  15. If being a nurse is something you really want to do, then you can do it!! I am 38 and in my first semester of an ADN program, and I have 4 sons at home. I spent the last 21/2 years taking basics. You could at least start with whatever pre-req's you need and then start trying to get in RN school. The first step would be to contact a local college or university and see what classes you should start with!! Don't even consider that you may not be able to do it-- because if you set your sights on the goal of becomming a nurse and just take one step at a time you will succeed!!!
