How'd you learn bones & muscles?

I'm getting worried. Anyone have any helpful tips other than study & repeat. LOL.

Im a visual learner so I did alot of my studys online. There are lots of websites that have quizes that you can do. I also would touch my bones and say out loud which bone it was. Just google bones or a&p and you'll find tons of study stuff :)

You can do it!

Good Luck

I made up little songs using nursery rhyme tunes naming body parts in order, then I'd sing them out loud. It was silly, but my daughter also learned a lot that way. :D

Also, for the cranial nerves, I visualized the numbers on the actual body parts, such as number 11 being the sides of the neck to remind me that this nerve controls the muscles of the neck, number 8 looking vaguely like an ear and is involved in hearing, etc.

I bought a small dry erase board from walmart, and some dry erase markers. I would draw, label and say out loud over and over. Usually when it came to the lab practical I could draw the whole thing and label it without looking in the book.

P.S. You don't have to be an artist as long as you know what you mean.

I used cheat words for memorizing the bones

Example: TiBia and Fibula

See the T and B? I related that to Big Toe side and obviously fibula is the other.

Example: Radius and Ulna-The thumb side, the thumb goes around like a radar and the pinky sticks Up(ulna).

Example: Humerus-the bone below where I find alot of humor (armpit), I'm ticklish.

I'm one of those learners who can't just remember one thing, I have to learn one other thing to remind me of what I'm trying to learn. Sounds like more trouble than i'ts worth, but it works for me even now. As for the muscles, I have to tell you I must of not made a whole lot of trigger words, because I can't remember alot of them. Good Luck and hope maybe my few listed above will help.

I used flash cards. I google imaged searched all the bones and muscles and then printed out pictures to glue onto note cards. It worked fairly well.

I also came up with little cheats like for the tibula and fibula I had in my mind (and still do) "The fibula fibs it's larger than the tibula." So I could remember that the tibula was the larger bone.

Thanks so much for this post. One of my instructors told me about the thumb acting as a radio antannae to remember that radius is on the side of the thumb. One bone I could never remember for the life of me was the Tibia and Fibula. Now I can associate Tibia with the big toe. Thanks so much! I think I will start to use this strategy to aid me in memorization when I take A&P this fall.:monkeydance:

Hi ceraleigh,

I am a visual learner, so I made charts and used a "muscle man" sheet for learning the muscles, and also a skelteton man for the bones. I have uploaded my muscle chart for you on here, and I have more info on bones amd muscles on my website that you can open and print off. It is specifically for pre nursing and nursing students and has all kinds of helps for A&P and Micro and a few for nurses. Click on my user name and then click "view public profile" for my website address. Sorry, I had it poste it on here, but was asked to take it off, due to policy/user rules, but I have helps, quizzes and links to some fabulous sites that I utilized when I was in A&P and Micro. Hopeully they can help you too!

Good luck~
