How did Vietnam (97 million people) manage to keep its coronavirus death toll at zero?

Quote

So how has Vietnam seemingly bucked the global trend and largely escaped the scourge of the coronavirus? The answer, according to public health experts, lies in a combination of factors, from the government's swift, early response to prevent its spread, to rigorous contact-tracing and quarantining and effective public communication.

I agree with this. And I also don't believe the numbers China has reported. I believe their actual numbers far exceed ever our own. Of course I have nothing to back that up.. just a hunch.

Similarly, can we be certain that the USA is being honest about our COVID experience? This isn't exactly a transparent or truthful administration.

If you are looking purely at a national level, sure, but keep in mind you have cities, counties, and states reporting numbers that are then aggregated into the national numbers. Not only are they watching the numbers but so are a multitude of other organizations. The United States is somewhat unique compared to many other countries in that information from our individual states is widely available to the world, instead of just seeing an aggregated national number.

Seriously? People who take measures to save lives based upon expert medical advice are pro-communist?

There is already concern that the local, state, and regional data reporting are contaminated by confusion and political interests having nothing to do with scientific data analysis.

Vietnam is a Communist dictatorship. Human rights and civil liberties are always going to be secondary in a dictatorship, which will consistently apply the pretext of "national security" and "saving human lives" to curb peoples' freedoms.

What freedom has been denied you? It seems that if you can carry a gun inside a state capitol building, you are free to to behave like a 6 year old. What are "the Communists" trying to do to you...to specifically take a "freedom" from you. "Freedom " is such a cheap word. You sound like Joe McCarthy with your communist accusations. Should people be fre to poop in the streets? Well, there was a judge in Manhatten who said exactly that after the big psych hospitals closed down after repeated scandals 40 years ago. How should a world pandemic be handled so you can be "free"? Your paranoia and predictable script are tiresome.

Unless you've been living under a rock or are being willfully obtuse, you know exactly that politicians have curbed many civil liberties throughout our country in the name of "stopping the spread" or "flattening the curve". I won't argue with someone who says freedom is "just a cheap word" since I believe freedom is fundamental to America's way of life.

It is a quotation that defends the authority of a legislature to govern in the interests of collective security. It means, in context, not quite the opposite of what it's almost always quoted as saying but much closer to the opposite than to the thing that people think it means.

Again. What "freedom" were you deprived up (during a pandemic) that is making you so paranoid? As an old lady who grew up in neighborhood where many of my friends' parents spent time in concentration camp, I think I am well distrustful of people who throw abstract terms like "freedom" when you have NO experience with what it even means. Couldn't fish on a dam? Couldn't go to a movie ? Can't smoke on a plane? I'm not sorry for any convenience you have suffered during the pandemic. Maybe you're not a chick magnet without a haircut and a facial?
