This is slightly off-track but when I was in nursing school in Cambridge, Mass., we had a sweet lil' South Carolinian teacher, and it threw me off when she started talking about "Tuba-Tooze". Took me a few minutes to figure out she was talking about 2x2 gauze pads!
Have waited to see this subject here since the day I joined this site and all the time that I lurked prior! I tend to do it like those who mimic the other people in the conversation. Just a habit.

I couldn't stand the way Wilford Brimley pronounced it, so I'm very careful to enunciate it carefully. "Dye-a-beet-eez".
