Hi my fellow Nursing Students
I want to know how old were you when you started Nursing school. RN's and LPN's are welcome to answer.
I'm in my early 30's, married with three babies, ages five and under. I'm a little nervous and worried that I may have started a little late at following my dream to become a nurse.
Thanks everyone:D
19-20 for LPN... Then a thing called life happened. I'm 37 and will start my pre-nursing classes in 2 weeks. God willing, continue to my ASN program in Sept 2014 and graduate at 39 years young in the Fall of 2015. Hoping to continue my education and obtain my BSN in my 40s. I'm equally excited and anxious about this next chapter in my life, but I know with dedication and hard work the sky's the limit. It's NEVER too late to go back to school and follow your dreams. Best wishes to everyone in your nursing endeavors!
I'm turning 50 next month and started this journey over 20 yrs ago. I earned my Associates Degree in Business 27 yrs ago, and after a couple of years realized I wanted to be a nurse. Started my pre reqs when my first child was a year old, and then had another baby 2 yrs later, so put it on hold. Life was busy, so when my girls were 13 and 16 I started again, then my husband was dx with stage 3 melanoma, so that put school on hold again. Next I waited until my oldest child graduated nursing school and my youngest graduated from high school. Now both of my kids and I are back in school! This is my time and I will finish or else ! However, my back up plan is bartending school ! haha Always have a Plan B...........
I want to get some advice on the age issue, I am 55 and I am in for my bachelor degree in accounting in a christian school, but after I experienced something in my life, I feel like I should be a nurse to help others. Please can somebody help or give some advice on that transition and please tell me the do an d the don't on that matter.
Thanks
I'm 47 and will graduate with my BSN in May, but will be 48 by the time I pass my NCLEX. I feel that I don't have the confidence in my skills that the younger ones do in the clinical field, but I definitely am more comfortable with challenging patients than they are. Life experience makes a huge difference dealing with the stress of school also. Being older has taught me to ignore the drama and focus on the important things in life. I just hope my age doesn't cause an issue when it comes to getting hired.
I was 49 years old when I started school. I grauated in 2011 but it took about a year to find a job and I had to move out of state because you pretty much had to have your BSN where I was to get a job. I am now working on a surgical floor and going to school to get my BSN. I will be 54 when I finish the BSN program!
