30+ club! Lets do this together.
Just wanted to drop by and say "Hi!" to everyone. Love reading all of your posts. Very inspiring :) I'm 38 and almost done with my pre-reqs (3 more classes to go). Initially intended on going the ADN route, but am now contemplating on transferring into a BSN program hopefully this Fall semester. Transitioning back into school was difficult, but totally worth it. I am usually one of the oldest, if not oldest out of all my cohorts. I'm proud to say that age doesn't matter. I made the Dean's List my first semester. Not bad for someone that hasn't been in a school setting for 17 years. Build a solid foundation and work ethic before the nursing program and you will excel with flying colors. The sky's the limit :) Good luck and best wishes to everyone!

I agree 100% with Helano. First and foremost you must find a program that is accredited. Then from there look at what you're trying to accomplish (ASN vs. BSN). Research the schools thoroughly. By then you'll have a good idea of which program is the best for you. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Hi! Yes, I'm taking all of the general education classes at KU. I got your message, but am unable to reply through message. What questions do you have? I'd be glad to answer them here.

Hi, my name is Karen! I'm 37 and starting classes (pre-reqs) on Monday. I plan on taking the TEAS in December. God willing, I'm tracking towards a Fall 2014 start in the ASN program. This is the most inspiring thread I've read so far. It just goes to show that it's never too late to pursue your dreams. Good luck and best wishes!

Thanks! Yes, I start my first pre-req class on Monday and plan to take the exam in December. Here in JAX, a potential nursing candidate is required to pass the TEAS prior to the start of program. So, apparently it's not the same throughout the system.

How old were you when you started Nursing School?
19-20 for LPN... Then a thing called life happened. I'm 37 and will start my pre-nursing classes in 2 weeks. God willing, continue to my ASN program in Sept 2014 and graduate at 39 years young in the Fall of 2015. Hoping to continue my education and obtain my BSN in my 40s. I'm equally excited and anxious about this next chapter in my life, but I know with dedication and hard work the sky's the limit. It's NEVER too late to go back to school and follow your dreams. Best wishes to everyone in your nursing endeavors!

ADN Question
Here in Jacksonville there are tons of nursing jobs currently available. Most job postings I've come across here stated ADN and/or BSN preferred. So, it really does depend on where you are in Florida, but you can definitely find work if not in the hospital then at other facilities.

I'm probably going to take mines in December. I want to be prepared for it as much as I can. Thanks for the feedback! Let me know how it goes and GOOD LUCK!

Yes, KU is definitely up there in cost. However, I am fortunate that my husband, who is in the military, transferred his G.I. Bill benefits to me. My ASN education will be paid in full by that benefit. It wasn't really a matter of how much the school cost, but the quality of education that I'd receive. After much research and meeting with the admissions counselors, I felt confident that KU was the school for me. Thank you for starting this thread! It's really nice to be able to get input from other KU students. Good luck to you in your nursing endeavours! :)

So, when are you anticipating on taking the TEAS? We may be testing around the same time. How did you like the tutoring? Was it helpful?

murse3000- Awesome! What campus are you attending? Did you take your pre-reqs at KU, if so, how are the classes and professors? I will be attending the Jacksonville campus. God willing I start my nursing core classes in Sept 2014. I haven't taken the TEAS yet. My nursing counselor wants me to take it in November or December. I've already ordered the ATI study guide book and the McGraw-Hills TEAS practice tests. I intend to utilize the student workshop and the one-on-one tutoring. I want to be prepared as much as I possibly can. How did you do on yours?

Thanks for your input, Getting To Great! I ultimately decided on KU. I am starting my pre-reqs the 30th of Sept. Graduated from a Vocational Nursing program in CA many moons ago so I am starting from the beginning. Excited to dive back into the nursing world.

Hey all! I'm thinking of attending the Jacksonville campus. Basically been researching all of the nursing schools in the area and my options. For those of you that are currently enrolled especially students of the Jacksonville campus: What do you think of the school and program overall? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
