How has nursing changed you?

Nurses General Nursing

I definitely don't feel like the same person I was, years ago, before I started going to nursing school and working in healthcare. How has nursing changed you?

In response to The Lady Kate , you are right that he didn't know the patient's beliefs , but consider this ... the man was alone & not long for this world & each of us will be in that position one day & you might change your mind when your time comes . It's a hard thing to know that someone will possibly die alone & the nurse who cared for him obviously CARED for him .

That my friend is a symptom of a fallen dark world . While there are many great caring & loving people in this world , there are also just as many who do not care . For the non believer Satan does not exists , but pick up a bible and read it & understanding will come . Everything in the Word has been prophesied before our time & we have steadily removed anything that is Godly or pure out of our schools , made sure no one utters a prayer ( it might offend someone) , filled our movies & music with explicit words & killing has become the major theme on tv & now in our everyday life . Even Satan believes the word & knows it well . Look around you & you can see it is not God who hurts man , we have a free will & He will not force himself on anyone . Man hurts man & all of this began " In the beginning" we don't wrestle with flesh , but with the dark. Things of this world . There's no one that knows all the answers , and we are not meant to , but one day it will end and we all will know .

The only mention of religion or belief was the last sentence, actually clause; are you really that uptight about the mention of God? I would only question what kind of facility he works in to have that kind of time to give that kind of patient care.

I used to be very shy, but nursing has made me very outgoing. I'm also better at time management.

No. The nurse imposed his beliefs on a vulnerable patient. End of story. There is no "what if" when it comes to respecting a patient.

I'm maniacal about time mgt. at work. I just need to translate that more to my life outside of work, because there are a lot of things I either need or want to do.

Changed me dramatically which I did not expect. Some bad, some good; compassion for what friends and family go through; I feel like a nurse all of the time. The gal who runs a local thrift shop set aside a BP cuff for me, she knew I was looking for one to carry in the car along with the rest of my medical orificenal. Next day I pop in and an employee is having a stroke, I had my BP cuff! His BP was through the roof. By the time EMS arrived I gave them his last set of vitals, onset symptoms and had told him to stay NPO.

That is just one example of positive. On the negative our for-profit healthcare system is just more evil than anyone can contemplate. I was bankrupted in 2005 after being hit by an uninsured driver, my 'great' insurance through work did not want to pay citing 'caused by 3rd party.' I have worked in for-profit and county hospitals and the uninsured working poor have much worse outcomes due to lack of access.

Mainly, as cited, I did not anticipate feeling like a nurse all of the time.

He cleaned up a patient which was his job and he got paid for. No gold stars there. Then he preached to an unconscious guy. Do you think he did this for the dying patients benefit? He did this for himself.

That is by far the worst argument I have ever seen.

Exactly-there's no sugarcoating this. Boundaries were violated, regardless of intentions.

"what you did was a gross ethical violation" "vile"

I think we are going off the deep end here,One might not agree 100% with the actions but the intent was NOT to do harm,AND NO harm was done. It is the same as you refusing to pray along with a patient that is holding on to rosary beads while dying because - it is "vile" to discuss religion?

I don't understand the threats here, that is why nurses can never get ahead as a group, we are always threatening each other with loss of license, loss of job, blah blah blah and then going into the boss' office to rat out what someone posted on social media. No support for each other only competition as in I am better, smarter than you. Sad.
