How much is school costing you?

Published

I am going to a community college in the suburbs of Chicago. Total (pre-reqs and nursing classes, plus childcare) it will cost me about $20,000. I am including the childcare because it is more than half. Just for classes and books would be about $7000. But since I have three kids who are not yet school aged, I have to have daycare while I am in class. It would be 4x more expensive to have them at a daycare center, so I am lucky to have someone come to my house to watch them

I have no idea, our school has an estimate thing and for the 2 years they say about 9 grand. That is only nursing school 3 co reqs and books and stuff. So doesn't account for pre reqs at all or living +costs and I have childcare. My daughters day care is 250 a week, so right there is a good chunk of change.

I am just about 12k out the door for my ADN.

7k for tuition alone and the rest is for books, food, car insurance, gas, ect

I also go to a community college and when all is said and done it'll be close to $15,000. That of course doesn't include going back for my BSN.... :/

I think it was about 10k for my pre-reqs in CC and then it will be about 23k for the BSN program. It could be much worse....

3 kids who aren't school aged yet, and going to nursing school? How the hell are you doing it!?!? LOL. I only have 2 and one is a baby and they stress me out enough! I think my degree is going to cost me about 10k total. Right now Im able to take evening/online classes so I dont have to have any child care but if I get accepted into the nursing program I will have to have child care so that will be pricey. Good luck and you're a hero!

Haha. I have a five year old (late b-day so not in kindergarten yet) and my twins are 21 months. I got pregnant with the twins during the first part of my prereqs. The road isn't always easy, but whose is? You do what you do and that's all you can.

TBELLA2, I am in your boat. I have 3 at home as well. I had to start over from scratch because my original degree was 10 years old, they didnt want the credits. So I have been going for 2 years, since my middle child was 6 months, and got another suprise baby in the process. So now I have 3 at home, and upon passing the TEAS on Friday morning, will be in Nursing 1 in Jan. Thankfully my husband has a very flexible job, and he gets home at 4, and classes start at 5, so I won't need child care either. We plan to homeschool, so the oldest won't be going to K next year anyway. So it turned out best that I had to redo all my pre-req's because I could not do the program with a baby on my breast! Now that the baby is 17 months, we are all comfortable with me being away 5 nights a week, and hopefully I can do this!!

I'll cheer for you if you cheer for me!!

My BSN program costs under $6000 per year. Can't really complain....it's a great education and a great price for a 4 year program.

I'll cheer for you if you cheer for me!!

We can do it!!! Nurse moms are the best... I know, I have one! My mom also went to nursing school (in 1980) with twins and a newborn me at home. I just keep telling myself "If she did it, I can do it!"

My pregnancy wasn't a surprise, but the twins were! So I always say "One of them was unexpected, I just don't know which one" Now if I were to get pregnant now... It would be a HUGE shocker and it would mean my hubby's vasectomy failed :D

The program is suppose to cost roughly 8-10,000 that includes books and tuition. I've taken out 3,000 for this past semster and the next one. I was lucky that financial aid that paid for half of this past semester. Then it's going to pay for a little of next semster and I have to use some of my loan to pay for the rest and a book. I'm using the loan not only for school but as for living since I quit my job to focus on school. My last year of school I'm not getting any more financial aid so I'm going to take out 7,000 to cover it and living expenses. So far I haven't use all of my 3,000 because I don't have to pay rent and I don't have kids.
