How long is it taking to land your 1st new grad job?

I live in Maryland/DC area and I graduated in December of 2011. I got my license the end of February. I kept applying everywhere and then got a friend from nursing school to get her manager to pull my application where she works. I got an interview a week ago and got the job. I'm hoping to start next month just waiting on when orientaiton starts. Other than that I had no interviews or job offers.

    Laurel Hospital

Does anyone know weather or not the hospital is good for new grads? Their is a posting for a job in the ER. While searching through the posts here I found it was horrible but that was three years ago.

    I failed Med Surg

I'm not going to turn this post into a pity party. I didn't give one hundred percent this semester when I was taking OB and Med Surg. I started out doing that and then went out a downward slope. I passed OB but I missed passing Med Surg by four points. Even if I did just barely passed I would of felt like I passed but I didn't know a lot in the end. I believe everything happens for a reason and I hope to be able to retake it this fall. I plan on studying this summer as to be prepared for this fall and hopefully get an A. This was the wake up call that I needed I never failed as class so I'm not going to ignore it. I guess the whole point of this post was to vent and make lemons into lemonade.
  9. Thank you all for all your advice. I'll be starting my third semester hopefully this fall if I pass med surg this semester.
  10. I would love to do ER, Trauma, critical care and maybe L&D or peds. I start ob this semster so I don't know yet about kids. I know I don't want to do LTC at all not after my clinical rotation there.

    PGCC vs. MC

I go to PG and I just finished my first semester and I loved it! The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Good luck in whatever you decide, I actually saw where MC was at and that's to much of a drive for me. PG is actually ten minutes from my house and I did all of my pre reqs there. It's a great school.

    Grading scale for Nusing school???

    I go to a community college and I think my scale is 100-90 A, 89-80 B and 79-75 a C. I know for sure that less than a 75 is failing.

How much is school costing you?

The program is suppose to cost roughly 8-10,000 that includes books and tuition. I've taken out 3,000 for this past semster and the next one. I was lucky that financial aid that paid for half of this past semester. Then it's going to pay for a little of next semster and I have to use some of my loan to pay for the rest and a book. I'm using the loan not only for school but as for living since I quit my job to focus on school. My last year of school I'm not getting any more financial aid so I'm going to take out 7,000 to cover it and living expenses. So far I haven't use all of my 3,000 because I don't have to pay rent and I don't have kids.

    End of the semester laziness

Mi vida Loca I couldn't agree with you more. I know I should be studying but the weather has not been an inspiration to me at all lately. I know I only have a final and an exit exam left to take but I just keep putting it off. I know bad me but I can't help it. I've been so lazy lately. Well good thing is I'm pass the course and clinical I just need to stick it out til the 14th of Dec. I can't wait til the semester is over with. I have OB and Med Surg next semester looking forward to it.

taking out a loan for school am I wrong

I don't have to worry about grocercies thankfully. I did budget for my car insurance and bills. I'm going to be paying some off before I get the loan thanks to the help of my wonderful boyfriend. I intend to pay him back once I become a nurse. I only have enough money for a cell phone and about a credit card bill and gas per month. I won't have much left over maybe twenty bucks so I intend to be very frugal.
