How much personal info do you share with parents?

I have been at this for long, but i feel like parents somehow view me as an "outsider".

For example,i am courteous, but i do not like to share anything personal.

I mean,i do share with them my education and experience, but it stops right there.

I do not like to engage in small talk about celebs, current events, other nurses,my daily plans,my other cases, etc.

Some of these cases i have been going to for 5 yrs,but we seem "distant".

Providing babysitting services and volunteering my nursing skills is something i always wondered about. According to Allnurses(the General Forum) it is not a good idea.

This wasn't really a situation where a "nurse" was needed, but rather just someone who was capable of caring for a child with a Mic-Key button. An older child was in a drama production at school, and all the properly trained substitute caregivers (grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc.) were all wanting to attend the program as well.

Don't get me started on parents who won't change a diaper because they'll have a nurse in 16 hours that will take care of it. But if we wait 5 min because we prioritized suctioning over a diaper change, we get a complaint.

Sounds like we need a PDN support group on FB!

SDALPN can we start one?! As long as ppl are kosher. I see a lot of bad stuff stemming from people venting about work related issues on fb. I dont even list my employer. And NEVER talk work on fb. Ever.

I don't list my employer either. I wonder how the parents would view it if they snuck in to a group like that. Makes me wonder how those same parents would do if their employer didn't let them leave and said the kitchen at work was off limits. Or how they would do when they were told they couldn't have a break to eat. How would they like roach infested workplaces? Hmmm. But yet they blame us for not wanting to work in their homes.

My responses.

Where do you live- xx county

How old are you- old enough to vote

Are you married-yes

What does your husband do- we are both nurses (the hidden lie is that I don't have a husband, I have a wife. So not going there with pt so I use words like "we", "spouse".

I am agnostic but polite and don't need to change the world with my beliefs so I say merry Christmas, what's the harm.

I am a liberal with hardcore loud political opinions-all patients believe that I've never watched a political race in all my life.

I will share about my animals

I will tell them I have a 12 yr old son and we homeschool. That's all they get about him.
