Just curious, how much do the hospital CEOs and administrators make? Please provide actual figures where possible. In today's health care world it appears to me that we the nurses and first line care provider are always being asked to give and give and give. It almost appears as though we have an endless reserve. I am more than willing to pull some extra weight when asked to, but I am yet to see hospital administrators give back even ten percent of their salaries yes am saying ten percent because am sure that wont break their bank.I have heard of insistences where they have not received a bonus but not an actual wage cut. secondly is there a website that publishes salaries and annual profit margins for these institutions?

No difference from CEO's of Wall Street corporations, insurance companies, or Congress. If you haven't noticed, there are a few people who make big bucks at the top (and don't do ****), and lots of people at the bottom who do all the work.
Good luck with your quest- those people spend all their time figuring out two things- how to keep making money, and do as little as they can making it.

I am a firm believer that talent and education costs money.
My CNAs get paid 30% more than my house keepers because they have more education and specialized skills. I get paid 2 times what my CNAs do because I have more education and specialized skills. My Docs get paid much more than me because they have more education and specialized skills. So on and so forth. Not many individuals can successfully manage large, volatile and demanding companies.
Granted there are some that abuse the system but do I think all "suits" are inherently evil, no.
P.S. Some would say Nurses are way overpaid for being "butt wipers" and "pill pushers." Remember stereotypes cut both ways.

I wish I knew the exact amount the CEOs at both the hospital systems in my town made, but in the end it's not necessary. CEOs always make a lot; that's just the way the system is.

Exactly. Most people think the "boss" doesn't do anything for all that money, because they don't have any idea what the bosses job entails.

The advantage of being Not-for-Profit, as many healthcare companies are, is that you don't have to report the salaries of executives or profits, so we don't know how much the CEO's of most hospitals make or how much profit they bring in (Not-for-Profits are still allowed to turn a profit, they just don't have shareholders).

The hospital i am in reports their top players salaries every year. And i swear, there was just a thread exactly like this one just a few weeks ago b/c i responded to it.
Anywho, the CEO of the place i work makes over $1 million (thats salary, car and included benefits included in that figure.) Can i honestly tell you what it is he does? No. But im sure he does something. Lol.

Just today on Yahoo, it came out that in the USA, the middle class is shrinking. The poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer. They put it was posted 7/15/10, by Michael Snyder. Showed 22 statistics in detail. Sad.

Non-profits' IRS Forms 990's are a matter of public record, and the CEO/EO and 5 highest paid employees' salaries are listed. Check out guidestar.org and look up your hospital. (If they're non-profit....)

When I was doing a paper for school last year, I ran across an article that had the salaries of some of the big wig admin people in hospitals in my area. For instance, the president/ceo of my org makes over $1 mill, the nurse exec makes about $500,000, and other VPs make in the $300-$500 thousand a year. Another area org's CEO makes about $500,00 and that nurse exec was making $250,000, but that was an independent, stand alone hospital as opposed to a large health system. These figures were from 2007 though.

The hospital in my area (Peterborough, Ontario Canada) the CEO made in 2008, $310,982.92. Now, they just slashed about 150 nurses and cut about 31 hospital beds because they are running in a deficit. Fairness? no way.
