How many times/years did it take to get accepted.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I started this whole process almost 2 yrs ago. I have applied at two different schools at different times and just found out that I porb not getting accepted to the, second school. I have a previous degree in psychology and have a counseling license. When I started all this I had no idea it would take this long. I am feeling frustrated and defeated.

Just curious..... do they say WHY you get rejected? Or do they just stamp a big fat "DENIED" on your application? LOL :)

I truly feel blessed that I was accepted into the first and only BSN program that I applied to. I start Aug 20 and I can't wait. I believe that in somethings that if you are truly determined that you can do anything you put your mind to; however, I do sometimes wonder about the people who have to try for multiple programs more than 3 times. I am not trying to offend anyone, but I just don't think everyone is meant to be a Nurse. If this is your 4th, 5th, 6th, etc time applying for multiple programs that maybe one should step back and evaluate if Nursing is for them. I'm just having a hard time seeing why it is taking some people 4 and more times to be accepted in a program. I just want someone to explain to me what things are forcing people to have to apply to Nursing programs many, many, and many times and STILL be rejected.

the programs that I have applied for are extremely competitive. I have a 3.7 in pre req GPA but a low cumulative GPA due to them counting my first undergraduate degree. I have good hesi score and overall a good canidate. I missed the first program by a .010 in GPA cut off:-( . This last program there where 405 that applied for 88 positions. I am 15 on the waitlist for that. This doesnt mean that I am not qualified to be a nurse. Just program sizes are small. most people I know have applied more than once before they where accepted.

I applied to an adn program in another state, but missed having enough points by 1. We ended up moving with my husbands job and I got pregnant and finished a med terminology certificate instead. We moved again, and I had to redo my sciences since they were 5 years old. Lucky for me we moved to a great town with a good university. I applied to the BSN program last fall with a 3.9 cum gpa and 4.0 in pre reqs. I did not get in. This spring I retook the entrance exam and improved by 10 points! I reapplied to both BSN and LPN and interviewed with both and got into both! I start the BSN August 20th! It's a lifelong dream and although it was crushing to be rejected, I did not give up. Do what it takes, to a certain point. If your gpa is not good, and you can't seem to pass the entrance exam...then it may be time to reevaluate your decision to be a nurse. If its just a super competitive program, then do what you can to be noticed and don't give up!

The program I'm in had 500+ applicants for 50 seats! It is amazing how competitive these programs are. We're down to about 44 now (and class hasn't even started yet) just from them weeding people out already -- people who had bad marks on background checks, didn't bother to show up for mandatory orientation, etc.

I finished prereqs in Spring 2010, applied for Fall 2011 and was rejected. Applied for Fall 2012 for the same school and was accepted. I start August 20th. :)

Having 3 children and living in a small 3 bedroom apartment with only 1 income so that I can go to school full-time can be a tall hurdle to jump. I applied for the Spring 2013 program. I have been praying that I get in because this will be my 4th time applying. Sometime I do want to give up, but this is where my heart is. I can't think of anything else that i will be happy doing. i am not getting any younger so I need to make something happen. I am almost 30yrs old.

Just once - lucky me.

I am in the same situation, I am worried I wont get into a program, and my financial aid cap is running up

I applied to one school and was accepted into their pre-nursing program. 4 classes (A&P I and II, Math/Dosage Calc, and Med Term) and a 4.0 GPA (DONE!) and I've earned guaranteed admission to the RN nursing program for January.:yeah:

The only "pre-reqs" for my school are high school biology and chemistry. All other classes (including those I listed) can be done concurrently with the nursing program. (Luckily I have them ALL done already!) I knew getting into the nursing program would be tough but I knew I could earn the GPA (minimum 3.25) in pre-nursing to earn guaranteed admission. Easy peasy!

It took me a year to finish the prereqs and I only applied to the ADN program at the community college I took all my classes. I didnt get accepted but they put me in the waiting list. A month later they called me to tell me there was a spot available for me :). Now i'm on my 2nd semester of NS!

I started taking prereqs back in 2008, applied to two schools - one state and one private. My first degree BA GPA was 3.97,

prereqs 4.00, got into both.
