How many times/years did it take to get accepted.

I first applied to an ADN program that had a wait list in the Spring of 2009. I applied to 3 BSN programs and didn't get into any of them. I got Bs in all of my pre-reqs except for Micro in which I got a C so it made it difficult to get into a program. I was supposed to start the ADN program last semester except they required me to take the updated TEAS V test (I took the TEAS 4.0 in 2009) but I irresponsibly didn't take it in time so they withdrew my application. I ended up finishing a Bachelor's in Spanish and then reapplying to one of the BSN programs along with the ADN program and got accepted to the BSN program for the Fall! Even though it may take a while, don't give up! Is there anything you can do to make your application more competitive like repeats, work/volunteer experience etc? Maybe you should also try applying to more than 2 programs. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the encouraging words. I am going to retake some of the pre req courses. But as far as applying to more than two I dont really have an option I don't want to do adn because I am reaching my cap for undergraduate federal aid money. most jobs in this area require a bsn. If I get my adn I will have to pay for bsn too. There is a two year wait list for adn and the some of the pre req are different.:-(

It took me a 1 year to get in and I got rejected 5 different times. I got into an ADN program that I was rejected from twice. Don't give up, you can do this:)

I actually was accepted into the BSN program the first time I applied. But I had also turned in applications for the ASN and LVN program at a community college previously and wasn't accepted, weird lol. I'm glad I transfered to a university and got into the BSN program my first try because a BSN has always been my immediate goal. Don't give up on your goal because you will get in. It may take time but it'll be more than worth it in the end.

I started pre-reqs in 2005. Ended up going to emt school while still doing pre-reqs, finished that in 2007. Actually got into an adn program in 2007, but decided to go to paramedic school instead. Mainly because I wasn't going to be able to work and do nursing at that time. Finished paramedic school in 2009, graduated summa cum laude. Decided I was finally ready to go back to school this fall, applied to the medic to rn bridge and took the hesi test. Scored really well on that. Between that and my gpa, I think I have a pretty good chance of being accepted. Letters should be mailed by mid August. If I get in this year, that makes 7 years total of preparation. I haven't been in school since 2009 and I am really looking forward to going back.

I just applied for the first time in June and just got denied. Our school does not have a waitlist. They go by a point system. They give you points for different things like your gpa, county resident, co reqs being completed, entrance exam score ect.. I missed making the program by .30 points. I was so upset! I actually let out a few tears at work when I found out. Just couldn't help it. I always thought I would get right in as my gpa is pretty good and the only thing I was missing on the app was the health care exp point.

I am planning to re apply in Oct for the next deadline. I will also have the health care exp point now since I am working as a CNA. I just signed up for another class that I could never get into because it always fills up which will give me another point if I some how don't get in on the next application.

The biggest thing with me is I am living with my mother in laws house with my husband and 2 children in a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath. I have been in school for 3 years already and I can't wait around much longer for school. I am working part time but the house is cramped and we can't afford to have our own place on just my husbands income alone. After being denied I was seriously contimplating just quitting. But then I realized even if I was to quit and just become a full time CNA it doesn't pay great and we would be struggling to make ends meet. I don't want to live like that anymore. I am tired of being broke and scrapping by. I am tired of not doing the things I wanna do and provide for my family! So I am sticking it out for now. I don't want to be a nurse just for the money. I honestly love what I do as a CNA and cannot wait to become a nurse. But the money will be really nice too.

If this is what you want to do do NOT give up!! All the crap your going through now will be worth it in the end!! And when you finally finish with school you will be soooo happy you did not give up!!

It was kinda easy for me. Took about 1 1/2 years to finish pre-reqs. Got accepted into the first ADN program I applied to. Start this August!!

Took me three years with prereqs to get in. Applied to a BSN twice and was rejected both times and then applied to an ADN the third time and got in!! took awhile but was way worth it!!

When you got accepted into your BSN program were you already done with pre reqs or still completing them? If you were still completing them, what classes were they?

I only applied to one school, and I had to wait a year to begin there because the program was already full. I worked full time for the whole year in the meantime to save up some money because I am not working right now since I am giving all my attention to my classes.

You need to be in it to win it, just don't give up. If other people can get into those programs, so can you.
