How Many Preceptor Hours Are You Required To Do?

We don't have to do any for our part time ADN program - I wish we did though! I graduate in 13 days:-)

I had to do 120 hrs. Most schools in my area were roughly in that range- 100-150 hrs ish. I had a full semester that semester with 3 other classes. Education students, on the other hand, did a full semester of full-time Mon-Fri student teaching with no other classes.

We do 5 weeks of a minimum of 24 hours/week (120 hours required, but we can do more if we choose). We filled out a "wish list" and are placed according to the facility's availability. It's nice because we get to choose our area of interest instead of just getting thrown onto a random floor/speciality.

We had to complete 296 hours, 24 of which had to be leadership hours (working with the manager, charge nurse, etc.). We had to complete them over the course of 16 weeks as we take 4 classes. We just scheduled ourselves however we wanted, as long as we completed all the hours by the end of the semester. This program is in the Bay Area.

We did clinical hours our first two semesters. They averaged 1-2 times a week for 8-10 hours each. These rotated in various departments (ER, ICU, Med Surg, L&D, Long Term Care, etc.) At each of these clinicals we had a different nurse we were assigned to. This last semester, we are assigned to one nurse for all 144 hours and will be on a Med Surg or ICU floor - the goal being we get to know this nurse, she gets to know us and we really dive in with the nurse for her whole 12 hour shift.

Thanks for the explanation. We only had regular clinicals in my program. In the last semester we just showed up to clinicals, were assigned a nurse and had to take all of her patients and do complete care for them. But we were usually assigned a different nurse on a different floor everyday. I guess that's similar, but not really the same.

I wish I could contribute more to this, but I only begin my program next month. Per my curriculum, we have 225 required hours to complete for our senior practicum. During that semester, other courses are said to include Nursing Leadership, Concepts of Community Health, and Senior Seminar.

Where I go, we do clinicals 2x/week for 16 weeks, every semester except the first and last. Our last Semester, we do about 10 weeks of clinicals 2x/week, then we do a couple week of specialty rotations, and then we're supposed to do 72 hours (or so) of preceptorship. All told, I think we end up with something like 900 hours or so of clinical time.

I easily could be wrong as to how it's calculated and what they consider clinical time while in lab during 1st semester.
