How many classes and what classes are you taking?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone!!

I just starting taking my nursing pre-reqs (I already have English 101, but thats it). I work full time (I am 25) and am only able to take 2 classes at a time (This is going to take forever). My plan is to take the liberal arts classes 2 at a time and the sciences 1 at a time so I get a good grade. I was just wondering what everyone else is taking, and if there is any advice - are the sciences that hard? If I stick to my plan I should be dont with the pre-reqs by Fall 2011. I feel like that is too long. Can anyone offer me advice? Should I take more classes, I am just scred I may not get great grades. In fall I am taking english 102, and psychology 101 - then i was going to take a science class each semester and in the last 2 semesters finish my last 2 liberal arts classes. Is there anyone else on here that works full time and taking classes, if so what classes are you taking?

Specializes in ICU/UM.

I'm taking MT 110 (tech math) now and A&P I in the fall. After that, I will have a couple of co-req left (micro and A&P II) but I can apply before those are completed.

If you want to speed up the process, you can take some clep or dante exams. Most schools accept them.

Specializes in Cardiology, LTC, SANE.

This summer I am taking Statistics and A&P 1. Because of my scholarships, I have to complete 30 credits a year (!) so fall might be a little hard.

A&P 2-4 credits

Gen Chem 2-4 credits

Transitions (intro class to the university for transfer students)-3 credits

Nutrition-3 credits

Lifespan Development (Psych)-3 credits

=17 credits

Oh boy..:stone

At least on the positive side, I will begin clinicals in the spring!

Specializes in Telemetry.

Well my prereq's that I need for CSUEB are Speech, English, Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry 1 & 2, Microbio, and Critical Thinking.

I've already taken Stat and Comm, and finished every single other GE class needed for my bachelor's.. woo

I work full time, and I'm going to take Anatomy and Chem 1 in fall (night classes), along with Nutrition and English 1 online.

Spring, I will be taking Physiology and Chem 2, night classes, and Critical Thinking online.

Fall, I will be applying to schools and taking Microbiology along with a bunch of health sciences classes.

I started college planning to major in Health Sciences, to become a health teacher. Around this past January, after I got a job at a hospital, I realized that Nursing is for me. The bad part is that I got B's in Stat and Comm because I slacked off (amazing grades don't matter so much in health sciences) and I was perfectly capable of getting an A! And CSUEB deducts major points for retaking classes. It sucks. The two easiest classes and I didn't get A's. Now I have to get A's in every single other prerequisite to have a decent prereq GPA. meh. I also got credit for Eng 1 because of an AP score, but I'm going to take the class anyway to get an easy A to pad my GPA.

Specializes in Dermatology,Peds and Geriatrics as an MA.

I am starting out easy. I already took a math fundamentals class,my weak spot.

In the fall, I am taking Eng comp 1 and biological principles.

I am just hoping i cant keep them all in check. I have a Husband and two kids and a p/t job as an RCA right now.

Good luck to you!

I only took two classes at a time while I was working. The coursework wasn't hard, but going to class after work when I was tired and worn out was.

I'm now not working and taking 2 classes during summer I and 2 classes during summer II. I took chem before taking a&p, and it is actually really helpful for the physiology end. My method is 1 non-science with 1 science, so last semester I took chem and developmental psychology. Right now I'm taking sociology and A&P I and summer II I'll be taking A&P II and intro psychology.

My fall will be crazy- I'm doing intro bio, microbio, intermediate algebra, and nutrition. Then next spring all I have left is Statistics and there's space for any other specific requirements whatever school I get in to has.

In the fall I'll be taking A&P 1 and a Nurse's Aide class that my school requies (12 credits).Winter will be A&P 2 and 6 more credits from somewhere, and Spring will be Microbiology and 6 more credits. That will be all of the prereqs plus some It has to be done that way because of how my school schedules. I have both this coming summer and next summer off then I'll go into my actual Nursing classes. I'll have to find someting to go with them to maintain full-time status, but I'll have all of the "hard" suff out of the way and I can pick and choose what I take with the Nursing classes.

i finished my last pre req in the spring, so i am free from classes this summer. i will have fundamentals in nursing and clinicals in the fall. i do have a couple summer assignments to complete, which i will receive at orientation next friday.
