I'm just curious how long it took people to get accepted into RN programs? I'm hearing the ratio of applicants vs the amount of slots open makes it very difficult and some people have to apply year after year.

I applied in March 2001 and was admitted and started the end of May 2001. This was to a CC with a wait list of normally 2-3 years. But I already had 88 credits from a prior major and degree, and was already an LPN. I also had a 4.0 in all my prereqs. My 88 credits came from that college as well, but not the LPN diploma. I assume those reasons were a big part of why I got right in.

The program I was accepted into does admissions based on GPA for nursing prerequisites and some select lower-division courses. I worked hard to end up with mostly A's. I applied this spring for fall admission and got in on my first try. :)

I applied to 2 local community colleges with my first application attempt this past year. I got into one and didn't even make waiting list for the other. I found that eventhough both schools are part of the same statewide system within NC, they used very different entrance requirements. One required the NET, and the other the PSB entrance exam. The PSB was MUCH harder. Needless to say, I'm going to the school that used the NET. One school used my high school grades (which were pretty stellar) and the other focused primarily on my college courses (mainly a social education era, if I remember correctly)
I ended up having to take my Anatomy and Physiology this Spring and Summer, but I did a little studying for the entrance tests and did not need to take additional math etc. Its been 20 years since I got my BA in Economics, and it would be tough to have to retake alot of those courses.
I hope it works out for you. Changing careers at this point isn't easy, and I don't even have 2 kids to support. Best of luck!

30 slots and 850+ applicants. I applied @ the end of feb. and received my letter the first of april......I begin the ADN program in August. It really depends on the criteria the school uses to evaluate the applicants. Mine used gpa, hesi entrance exam, and the amount of prereq's completed toward the degree.

I applied to two schools and three programs. I was accepted to two programs within six months. I did have to review one of the schools points totals that they assigned to my application because they had missed something worth about 10 admission points. My advice, apply to every school that you could go to and check all records that they use to review your application.

Applied to one school didn't get in. That school looked at ONLY 4 CLASSES to base their admission criteria on! So stupid. Applied to anotoher school got in. That was January. Applied to another school and got in there that same June to start in August.

I applied in December and got my acceptance letter in January. First time applying, but my class is full of people that have been on the waiting list for several years, so who knows.

I luckily got in on my first try. I am in a BSN program at a university. There is no waiting list or anything, they accept usually about 55-60 students for each year. I think they had around 300 applicants this year and I got in with a 3.5 GPA, I heard they didn't take anyone with less than a 3.3 or 3.4 GPA. First semester is almost over, it is crazy hard, but I'm loving it!

I applied to 2 programs in 2006 and didn't get in with a 3.82 GPA. Trying again this year and applying to five schools with a 3.92 GPA...

I got into my program on my first try. It's an ADN program, but I already have a BS, so that may have helped. They said at the orientation that only aprox 1/3 of the applicants were accepted and they do not have a wait list, if you're not accepted you just have to apply again.

I am currently awaiting for the response. I applied in November 2007 for the Spring session, which starts in September, of 2008. I haqve a 3.84 GPA, my prerequisites are complete, I got a 21.8 in my AHT, and I have no Fs or withdrawals. Although I'm looking good, I am competing against over 1000 applicants for 135 seats. Results don't come in until March, siiiighhhhh!!!
