How long did it take you to complete your prerequisites?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all,

I am 45 years old, and finally taking the first step in realizing my dream of becoming a nurse! I will be taking my very first prerequisite course (Nursing-Chemistry) in January. I was advised to take one class a semester to have a competitive GPA. I am curious to know how long it took you to complete your prerequisites? Are there any courses you can recommend that would be good to take together?

I am in S. Florida and will be going to Broward College.

Thank You!!

Myself is just poor so I am taking one a semester. After the wedding this year going to try to take two classes a semester. I have 6 classes to take: A&P 1/2, Micro, 2 math classes, 2 Psych classes, Chem 1 & Chem 2, and Intro to Physics. Granted I have a degree I banged out the other prerequisites awhile ago.

The recommendation is no more than 8 credits at a time and I took 11 - found them pretty intense.

I brought all the books in the end. I tried renting them and the time it took to make notes was so time consuming I decided to just make the purchase! Amazon was best priced - I may be able to pass on my books. When do you need them? I'm planning to hang onto to them for my first semester and I start next week...

The connect subscription is a must - especially for anatomy and the online lab for Micro

A lot of reviews on amazons say that the books for A&P do not contain the access code. I guess i should get the used book and purchase the connect access separately. I am only planning on taking A&P sequences, micro and nutrition.

I am starting with Anatomy and Microbiology this coming February! I wish you the best at the JHU MSN program!

One year to complete prerequisites taking classes all year round including 9 credits over the summer, AP II and Microbiology along with two other courses the one semester (14 credits). It was hard, but doable.

I have prior college credit from 10+ years ago so luckily I'm done with electives and humanities and got all A's back then. I'm hoping to get some of the classes that can be taken during the nursing program out of the way before applying (A&P 2 and 3, microbiology, etc), and some other classes that aren't necessarily prereqs but are awarded extra "points" during the application process (medical terminology, CNA which I did nearly 8 years ago). I tested in to Math 095 which is the only prereq math class, so I lucked out there as I only need to take that one math class. This term I'm doing an 8 credit cell biology/healthcare chemistry combination that's a prereq to the A&P series at my school. Provided everything goes well, I'm hoping to be able to apply to the program at this time next year if I do summer classes, but I'm also willing to wait until the year after that if it means I can save up more money and keep up my 4.0.

I work mostly full time and am taking 2 classes per semester. I only take one lab class per semester though, and the other class is usually online (e.g., this semester I'm taking A&P 2 in person and stats online).

I'm 42 and have just started taking mine (again - I took them all the first time in Canada). I hope to be done them as quickly as possible but still maintain the required GPA.

Currently I am taking English, World Religions and Math. It ends up being 9 credit hours AND working full time. My plate is pretty full but so far I'm able to manage.

I will be 30 in a few months, and I am a mother of two. I began taking my prerequisites in the spring of 2013, and only was able to take two classes per semester. I just completed my last prerequisite over a two week intersession and actually submitted my last application for nursing schools today. So for me it took 3 years, attending part time to complete my prerequisites.

hey ,i know it's been awhile since you posted. But i have one question ,can i take those courses at any college that offers nursing? how did you found the school to complete them? sorry if the q's are stupid ,but i really want to be a nurse and don't know where to start.

What school is that
