How long did you stay at your first nursing job, and if it wasn't a med-surg position.. how long did you stay on the med-surg floor before you ventured out? please tell me about your experience :)
What in the world? 45 minutes? Would you mind giving details? If not, I completely understand :)
Eight months after graduation, I was hired at an LTC for a part-time (16 hours a week) night position. My first day, after 20 minutes in the unit manager's office and another 20 in the day room, the unit manager told me that the job was now per-diem, and they didn't have the budget for 2 orientees at once, so she was sending me home. When I called back for an update a few days later, she said the position had been canceled.
I have been at my hospital for over 4 years. This being my first nursing job. I started as an LPN, and just got my RN in 12/10. It is a small, rural hospital. We also have telemetry. I have a question. Can i include my med/surg experience while i was an LPN? I was IV certified. Because, when i apply for another job, can I say that i have had over 4 years med/surg. experience? I am confused about this.
Started and still am at my first job. 6 weeks and counting and I'm terrified that I hate it so much and I'm still in orientation. The signs are all there that this job is not the business but I am still looking for work with not too much luck and I need the money. *sigh* Jesus take the wheel and give me the strength to continue.

When I was in school I said I would stay in my first job for a year then go traveling. I accepted a grant from a local hospital that required 2 years, so I compromised and said I would stay 2 years. By the time I got to 2 years I was starting to work charge and I like that so I stayed nearly 5 years. It was step-down telemetry but essentially ramped up med/surg.
I finally went traveling, enjoyed it but got it out of my system. Several years later I finally got into a specialty; NICU.
Love it.
