How do I deal with a liar?

Heres my situation: I work in a hospital as a CNA. I have applied once to one school for nursing and was crushed when I received the news that I did not get in. I was embarrassed to tell my co-workers so I didnt. I let it slide until one day a co-worker asked me what I was doing that day (we work nights) and I replied "going to meet the Counselor in charge of Nursing to see how I can gain more entry points for my application." So the next night the co-worker comes into work and immediately tells everyone that I did not get in to school (again, embarrassing). Its MY business!!!! So the way she said it was she got into THE SCHOOL I had applied for, but I didnt! Before hand we had heard nothing of her applying. Then a couple of days later we had a float CNA helpout on days. During shift change in my presence she told this CNA that she was accepted to the community college down the way a DIFFERENT school than the first. So I questioned her and then she claimed she got into both. So Thursday was orrientation to the community college nursing program and another CNA from our floor went. I asked her if the co-worker I suspect is lying was there and she said "didnt see her." It was a smaller group. This co-worker has been lying about ridiculous things and has many people wonder ing if she is telling the truth on anything. She also has an LPN story. So, how do I deal with this, just an hour or so ago I heard her telling a bunch of people about her "school work?!" Shes not fooling me!!!!!!!! :argue:

Hi and welcome to the site, to be honest if I were in your shoes I would ignore it, the lies she tells will come back to haunt her, if she is telling everyone she has got into nursing school at some time she is going to have to justify why she is not there and will be exposed as being a liar.

This person sounds pretty infuriating but is it really worth confronting her? It's sad that you didn't get into nursing school, however at least you know now that she can't be trusted in the future. I have found that compulsive liars always reveal themselves because they often can't keep track of the stories they tell. I'm sure your workmates will catch onto the fact that she's not telling the truth.

I personally would focus my energies on getting into nursing school if it's what you really want. Some people are just not worth the effort. I wish you all the best :wink2:

Some people feel the need to always 'one up' another person by doing/saying things such as your co-worker-she isn't worth your energy, and she obviously has issues of low self esteem to be acting in this way-chalk it up to lesson learned, keep your chin up, focus on your own goals, and know that you are behaving in a professional way, she isn't and karma is a B*%$@!

This is really petty, so you should ignore it.

This "lie" is not worth the time or energy to investigate. You have better things to do, such as gaining acceptance into a nursing program. Good luck to you!

I know it's easy to get drawn into all the negativity, but I think it is probably a bigger deal to you than anyone else.

There is way too many other concerns than gossip. That is all this is: pure gossip.
