Hi everyone,
To those who passed or failed in the new NCLEX this April, please share your thoughts and experience.
I heard a rumor that there is more SATA questions and less priority questions.
How true is this rumor ?
I had 2 EKG strips, one "pick the appropriate position for the client for X procedure (followed by 4 pictures) and the rest was 60/40 multiple choice and SATA - I had no math, no hotspots/video/audio and no drag and drop...
Computer shut off at 75 questions and my name was up on the BON site today as passed!

congratulations!!
PatMac10,RN. I purchased Exam Cram, NCLEX-RN. It is a short but thick book. Is that the same book as you referred to earlier? I am using it alongside doing Kaplan Qbank questions. How exactly did you use it: did you read straight through and then do the practice tests at the end if it is the same Exam Cram book? And how far in advance did you finish the book before you took the actual NCLEX? Any pointers with what to focus on or how to maximize using this particular book would be much appreciated.
Congrats on your success!

Yes, that's the book. I didn't do whole exams, at least not in one sitting I broke the sittings up into groups of 40 to 50 questions.
I didn't want to over study. Some days I just did 20-30 questions. I felt that I could pass and knew that I had a good chance because I took and did well on the ATI comp predictor twice. Plus I tested 11 days after graduation.
Don't overstuff, bc you can do that. Exam Cram is awesome, in part, I believe, because the book is published and reviewed by Pearson, the same people who administer the NCLEX.
Exam Crams question are the very long and paragraph type question you may have seen in, school, but that's because those long questions are on NCLEX (at least not for me) all of the questions were 2 or 3 lines for the most part.
Best wishes for all who have yet to test!!! Go rock out!!!!

Hi Pac,
is the Exam Cram book a Q & A book or a content book (like Saunders) ?
I just took the NCLEX and passed with 75 questions. I only had 4-5 SATA, one EKG, one math, and one picture. I was a little worried because I had heard that the more SATA's you have the better. That wasn't the case for me at all. I had a ton of pharmacology questions as well as teaching and priority.
I hope I don't sound insensitive to anyone who failed, or who is struggling, but this test was one of the easiest tests I've taken all through nursing school. I used the Hurst videos to brush up on my content and I took two of the Kaplan Qtrainers the day before the test. My scores were 67% and 73%. The format of the test is almost identical to Kaplan. However, I give the credit to Hurst and recommend their service. The rules and tips that I learned made answering the questions a breeze.

Hi Lolaviex,
its fortunate that you got a few SATAs in your exam because most nclex takers failed due to a lot of SATAs (30-40).
Did the Kaplan Qtrainers help you ?
I went into the test thinking that the more SATA's you have the better, because that means you're doing good because they're higher level questions. Several people from my graduating classed passed with 75 questions and said almost half their test was SATA, that's why I thought that. But, based on what you're saying, if people with a lot SATA's aren't passing, then it's just a myth. SATA is just another type of question and doesn't have anything to do with how you're scoring.
The Kaplan Qtrainers helped me in hindsight. While I was taking them they just seemed like any other practice questions. But when I started NCLEX, I saw that the set up of the questions, the wording, and even the color of the background is pretty much identical to Kaplan so it made me feel more relaxed.

I was scared too, bd used out of 98 questions I only had 8 SATA 2 pics and 2 math. I had also always heard the more alternate test items the better. I came to realize that everyone's testing experience is different. Many people into class got the same number, some had 75 questions others about the same as me.
Although I won't say that the test was "easy", I will mention that the test only assesses if your a safe and minimally competent NEW GRAD nurse.
Each test is so different and each tester is so different that the 4.0 during nursing school tester may get a test with more higher level thinking questions and struggle bc the majority of the content asked about was in their weak areas. Another tester may get content from their strong area as the majority if their test and pass no problem, but struggled through nursing school.
As a security caution, it is my understanding that many schools attempt to "over prepare" you by giving tests that's I be more difficult (in a way), than what the content on NCLEX would supposedly be. By doing this through out nursing school it prepares you to take and be able tonnage the NCLEX. In theory: if you can pass "harder" tests in school, then it should be more likely that you will pass NCLEX. However this process is simply theoretical as far as I know.
