How hard is the new NCLEX 2013 Test Plan

Published

Hi everyone,

To those who passed or failed in the new NCLEX this April, please share your thoughts and experience.

I heard a rumor that there is more SATA questions and less priority questions.

How true is this rumor ?

I PASSED RN (july 16, 2013) the test plan actually is...I dont know I cannot compare it to the old one because I passed on my first take this july. anyhow, I can only say the questions were "SHORT, CONCISE and SPECIFIC". Before exam I was expecting questions will be long and boring but I was wrong. All I can say use the best of your nsg judgement, and practice A LOT ON PRIORITIZATION..

NO EKG QUESTION WHICH SURPRISED ME! I only HAD 7+ SATA, 5 drag drop, 3 charts, 3 pics. UNLIKE OTHER PEOPLE SAYING 20+ SATA (THO I KNOW EACH EXAM IS DIFFERENT BUT I THINK THAT IS EXAGGERATION, IF THEY PASSED NCLEX HAVING 20+ sata THEY'RE DAMN GOOD). i STOPPED at 80, not minimum but it's okay.. who cares? It is not gonna appear on my RN license and record! LOL

these questions are basically "made up" like they will ask you attended nursing conference regarding fall prevention....you would include in the interventions you learned...

questions like those, nothing to worry about such questions...

What are conference questions?

I took my test july 2013. I had studied hard. I purchased the learning extension, kaplan book read it twice. I did hurstreview lectures and practiced questions on the hursts website. I just learned today that I failed with 265 questions. The test had so many unexpected stuff on there. Diseases that I've never heard of. A lot of meds that I did not know. I would try to see anything familiar such as the ending, lol, lil, am for medications.... and Nothing was familiar there. Also a lot of the drag and drop. questions organizing like steps on how to perform certain procedures. A lot of prioritization questions. Anyways that test is just way too hard and wordy:( Now I need to find money and start studying again and praying harder!

I have the same situation as you do. Read saunders and purchased an online review. I guess you really cannot expect what they'd give because it is different per individual. they might give u a ton of OB and a ton of psych for another taker. i think it's like lottery. Lucky for those who got a lot of items on what they reviewed. I will take the exam again and thinking of what approach to take differently this time around. if there are retakers of 2013 there that passed, any suggestions?

I finish up my last term of the RN program and was wondering if anyone had any resources to help me prepare for the NCLEX. I graduate in December and want to start in reviewing as much as I can. I have been reading the hurst review is a hit. :) ! Thanks a lot.

I know it sounds crazy but i had at least 30 sata(out of 75) really id put it closer to 40 almost every question was a sata no alternate format at all no math just sata after sata i was sure i failed but i am getting the good pop up so we will see def the hardest test ive ever taken im jealous of those that say they got an easy version mine was brutal and im a good test taker graduated at top of class yada yada yada still brutal

I just took the NClEX-RN boards here in South Florida. I passed! Test stopped at 130. I reviewed with Kaplan face to face and had all the question trainers and Qbanks resources given to me. Ot was worth my $499 to take Kaplan Review. It will give you confidence to sit for the boards. Kaplan Questions are similar to the Nclex exam. I thought I failed because I didn't feel as if I reviewed n studied the same material that the test was asking me. I had four SATA, three math questions, one EKG strip, NO audio, NO hot spots, and the rest was multiple choices. It contained a mix of topics. Study prioritization, culture, lab values, math calculations, diet, and priorities priorities priorities questions!!!! If you don't know anything, know your priorities! I found out my results in two days. It was torture ! I don't believe or rely on the Pearson Cue quick reregister check. I wanna see pass of fail. And I thank God almighty above I Passed!!! Study study study and pray pray pray... Hard work pays off .. and purchase the Kaplan Review! Its awesome and good luck to everyone e.

hi, you are very lucky.

you got only 4 SATA.

For most test takers, having a lot of SATA are overwelming ranging from 30 to 45 SATA which i think is a big factor that makes NCLEX quite hard
