  1. I did hurst review the first time and studied my butt off and failed. I passed a couple weeks ago and had used Saunders for content and kaplan for strategies.
  2. I did hurst first time and failed. If you're a major visual learner, hurst is NOT for you.
  3. just speaking for myself because of the way i learn and remember things (visual more so than auditory), saunders helped me a lot more than hurst did.. and because i was really weak in content area, a quick review wasn't enough for me..i needed background info. i only used saunders because my classmate used it/passed and it was free to borrow (i couldn't afford to spend any more money AT ALL). i never actually used kaplan's decision tree...it was way way too complicated for me. i just used the tips that probably everyone has already heard of lol (I'm a slow learner). Like the one where you re-word the question into your own..and picking apart the answers (rather than the question) to eliminate 2 like answers (thus narrowing down your choices). those helped me a lot when i had no freaking clue what the topic of the question was about
  4. honestly, if it didn't work for you the first time and you studied your butt off, i would go with another study resource because obviously it didn't work for you the first time. i failed using hurst review a couple months ago and i was so intent on hurst and raving about it because the information seemed really to the point and just plain good..but it wasn't enough for me (it may have been for other people but my content area was too weak and i didn't realize that until after i failed). as much as i wanted to keep using hurst because they put everything in such simple and condensed terms, i knew i had to use something else.. so i read through the saunders book and looked through the kaplan nclex review book for test taking tips and i re-took nclex a week ago and passed!
  5. i passed boards kind of late (because i failed the first time) so now i'm on a time crunch (it feels..).. i applied to the few new grad/residency programs that were still accepting applications.. SO: how long does it typically take for them to contact you back if they decide they want you? personal experiences, anyone? thanks :)
  6. hah, this is exactly how i felt. i did hurst and failed the first time and now i'm doing saunders book +CD and lacharity's PDA and hopefully this will help more.
  7. the only tip i've ever heard for SATA is just seeing each option as a true/false statement if anyone has any other tips, i'd like to know too :)
  8. i took it but i failed..but anyway.. i had 152 questions. i had a couple ECGs, 1 dose calc, 1 exhibit, 2 drag and drops, maybe 10 SATA, a lot of priority and therapeutic response questions, and maybe 2 meds i had a lot mental health/psych kind of therapeutic response questions, OB priority questions, and infectious diseases/control priority questions
  9. LadyFree28, thanks for that..that was really helpful and i actually screen shot that to save it as a reference (lol) i literally cannot afford any other resources, even if it's $20-$30, since i splurged on hurst and have to pay for another exam i already have lacharity's PDA, i have access to maryann hogan's nclex review book and the test questions, and i have the saunders nclex-rn flash cards.. I didn't use any of these for that failed nclex (i just did hurst and 5 chapters in lacharity)... do you think all that is enough to focus on those 4 categories of nclex? thank you so much for those tips :)
  10. this is my opinion on hurst... hurst was great for content review and i can honestly say i probably learned more watching hurst videos than i did in nursing school and it was way easier to understand as well...but the hurst review tests were NOTHING like my nclex questions AT ALL. except for the ECG questions, i would say that my nclex questions were most like the questions in lacharity's PDA (i did maybe the first 5 chapters and that's it, unfortunately)... unless lacharity does cover ECGs and I just never got to it yet..
  11. 79, 85, and 87 i was saving the last 3 in case i failed (ha) but now i don't even know if i should bother continuing with hurst. i feel like if i had used all of the lacharity book, i wouldve done better..i only did maybe the first 5 chapters
  12. 155ish and i ran out of time (i wasn't going slow on purpose either)
  13. i just failed and i relied on hurst. most of my questions were priority questions and therapeutic response question. I got maybe 2 or 3 medications and 5 or 6 ECGs, a few SATA and 2 drag and drops. i'm really not even sure how to study anymore after this.
  14. happened to me too..only i checked a couple hours after i was done. i'm just sure i failed.
  15. assuming it's even good
