How hard is the maths to become a Registered Nurse?

Hello,

I live in Australia. I am wanting to know how difficult the mathematics is in a Bachelor of Nursing degree? Is the mathematics component going to be insurmountable for me? I've never really a mathematics person but I am willing to learn. What mathematics do Registered Nurses use?

I not only hated math, but was terrible at it, and would go as far as to say I had a math phobia. Yet, I have managed to pass undergrad and graduate level statistics with an A and pass a nursing calculation test for almost every job I've applied for. There are books and youtube videos out there that will help you. If I can do it, anyone can. It just requires application, like most things in life.

Welcome!

The majority of the members of this forum are in the US, where nursing education varies wildly between different nursing programs. For instance, one RN may have had to take college algebra, basic statistics and precalculus in order to graduate, whereas someone like me didn't need any college-level math coursework to graduate. In fact, all I needed to do was pass a dosage calculation exam with a score of 100 percent.

I am unsure of the math requirements for nursing students in Australia.

Many students start their BSN program at age 15 or 16 and Math doesn't tend to be a an issue.

Not in the western world, Europe or ant commonwealth nations.

you understand one country and have blinders on to the reality of nursing education.

Philippines is one of the few countries where people end HS at grade 10 and start "college" this has been an issue when full transcript reviews are done in Canada and certain US states that mandate a 12th grade education/diploma prior to starting college level classes.

Nursing math is very basic. Look at the requirements for the programs you are interested in. You may need some remediation if the requirements are more than you think you can handle.
