How hard is basic anatomy and pysiology

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am a pre nursing student and I am about to take basic A&P come fall semester, it will be my first college science class and I want to know how hard it is. Is there anything I need to know before entering it?

Hmm Basic A&P? It sounds really easy if it's just basic. If you are talking about A&P 1, I took lots of notes and was very attentive. I asked the professor questions if I didn't understand something. Also, if the professor has extra time like "open labs" or "open study group" type things, I would strongly encourage going to them. They help out a lot. Do whatever you can to succeed. Redo notes if you have to or even add on from your textbook. I liked reading the textbook and reading my notes, plus looking at YouTube videos to help. Basically, just study a lot and you'll get through! :)

define "hard". Are you defining it by effort needed? Yes you need to put forth effort. If you are comparing it to something else then that is different. Also "hard" to me may be different than "hard" to you. How do you define "hard"?

I just finished Anatomy. I wouldn't say the material is hard to grasp, I would say it is hard, because there is so much to learn in a semester. Because there is so much material to learn, one is required to devote a large amount of time to studying if they want an A. You have to decide the level of commitment and effort you are willing to give. I saw many classmates not make the commitment and their grades reflected such.

As a first class in Science, the language will be foreign. This means that when you don't grasp what you are learning that you will have to go after the answers in whatever way possible. For example: attend every lecture and lab, don't leave lab early, work with a teacher, a tutor, or teacher's aide, ask a ton of questions, read the book, use on-line resources (youtube, getbodysmart, human body atlas, etc). Good luck!

Teach yourself some mnemonic phrases or pictures to help you with the rote memorization, it will save time.

You have to take a site like Ratemyprofessor.com with a grain of salt, especially concerning a class like A&P. I'll check it out just to see if theres any specific information about a professor I can glean in advance, such as they don't allow make up exams or whatever, but I pay little to no attention on the overall ratings and peoples opinions. After taking the class and forming my own opinion Ive found so many of the ratings and opinions on that site bear no resemblance to what I experienced.

Good day, funtimes:

I agree on ratemyprofessor.com. While I do believe there are areas of reliability, one of the best professors I had was among the worst rated for the one class I took with people sharing over and over again -- only take her if there is no other choice.

Thank you.

Don't ever let other students psych you out and tell you a class is hard (I made that mistake one too many times, wasted a lot of time stressed out over the opinion of others that didn't even pan out to be true for me.) In classes like AP I and AP II where you need each others support, you will notice that the people who try the least are the ones that complain about it being the hardest. Yes, there is a lot of memorization, and it is time consuming. I definitely wouldn't call it hard. Really I wouldn't call any of my pre reqs hard at all, just some of them were more time consuming than others. If you give it your 100% effort you will do great! Don't ever give up! I promise if you are able to make school your number one priority, you will shine and do fantastic.

Don't let it psych you out. I was so nervous, but managed an A in A&P I and a B in A&P II. Pay attention to your teacher's cues on what he feels important. Attend every class and never fall behind on reading. I found flash cards helpful but part I.

Oh and master the language of anatomy in the beginning (use flash carss) things fall into place after that.

Thank you everyone for the advice

When I did my sciences, I did accelerated courses that were only 8wks long, so we had class three days a week, and an exams three days a week!! It consumed my life, I didn't talk to anyone! I went to sleep studying and woke up studying! But you learn a lot and it's such a fun class! Try your best to indulge and allow yourself to be completely interested, go home and talk about what you've learned w/ family. Make it your life!

It's really not hard! or at least not to me... AP1/2 are TIME CONSUMING not hard!

I passed with a B+ and I did a lot to pass!

-I took my own notes, not the professor's. Put it in my own words & paraphrased it to make it all make sense. Then took the professors ppts and added some key points or anything important to my notes.

- recorded lectures, listened to it everyday (not for hours, but 15 mins multiple times during the day)

-reviewed my notes daily

-did the homework!!!

-purchased flash cards on amazon! For $3, if you or anyone wants to know the title, let me know!

The key to passing AP1/2 and any science course, is to study smarter, not harder!

Good luck to everyone
