How hard is basic anatomy and pysiology

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Updated:   Published

I am a pre nursing student and I am about to take basic A&P come fall semester, it will be my first college science class and I want to know how hard it is. Is there anything I need to know before entering it?

Take this topic seriously and you'll never loss your track

You can go to quizlet over the summer and familiarize yourself with some of the vocabulary words and definitions.

Herlihy Basic Anatomy and Physiology on quizlet pretty much has all chapters.

YouTube can be good for quickly understanding topics. My favorite you tube video was for A&P I. I was able to memorize all cranial nerves, and their insertion & origin in less than 30 minutes.

.

It has some errors, but helped me a lot in A&P II also, by showing how quickly you can memorize topics using elaboration.

Good luck.

Don't ever let other students psych you out and tell you a class is hard (I made that mistake one too many times, wasted a lot of time stressed out over the opinion of others that didn't even pan out to be true for me.) In classes like AP I and AP II where you need each others support, you will notice that the people who try the least are the ones that complain about it being the hardest. Yes, there is a lot of memorization, and it is time consuming. I definitely wouldn't call it hard. Really I wouldn't call any of my pre reqs hard at all, just some of them were more time consuming than others. If you give it your 100% effort you will do great! Don't ever give up! I promise if you are able to make school your number one priority, you will shine and do fantastic.

Couldn't have said it any better!!!

I agree with others that anatomy and physiology isn't that difficult, it's just a lot of information that you have to spend time going over. While your friends in certain other non-health-related majors may be having fun all the time, you must put in the time to do well in these courses. It really requires you to go over the material as many times as necessary for you to memorize and understand. The lab portion is mostly memorization. Take advantage of any open lab hours if your school has that. Professors also give you time to go over the material using the models once they go over it, so make sure that you take advantage of that time (it's very easy to just waste that time).

There are also review books that you can find online or on Amazon if you need some extra help in understanding the material.

I received As in both A&P I and II, and did so by going to class (I missed maybe 1 or 2), making sure I was paying attention during class (some people bring recorders, but I don't think I have the patience to hear the same lecture over again), taking good notes that I could read later, I read the textbook (some people only rely on what the professor says, which can work, but the text really helps in actual understanding, and you can review things that you didn't understand in lecture), used online notes I found for specific subjects, paid attention in lab, reviewed the lab powerpoints, etc.

A great tip is also to Youtube the areas covered in lab. There are many videos by students and professors, often with the same models you'll be using in the lab, going over the nerves, arteries, veins, organs, bones, etc that you must memorize. I highly recommend using Youtube review videos for the lab component to supplement your anatomy study for the lab.

It's not hard. It's jus time consuming. Make sure to study & you'll pass!
