West Coast University
Also @psata ....who are you? And are you a nurse or in the healthcare field? Just wondering!

West Coast University
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not taking out any loans for school. I also can't speak for anyone else's success after graduation for school, however I know a good number of graduates personally, who graduated, passed NCLEX first attempt. Also, with California public nursing programs, my co worker has been trying to get into nursing school, with just about straight A's since 2011, it's now 2014! My pre req's were done at national university, accelerated courses, so if anything much harder than a semester class. I was put on waiting list for quite a few programs! With great grades! I'm just not waiting for years, just to receive a certificate. But that's just me. Also, I'm speaking from my experience going to WCU as I say it's a great program. I'm speaking in terms of professors, the technology, the hands on environment. When I speak of the retention and pass rates, I'm speaking for people who I personally know, they don't seem to have a problem passing NCLEX or repaying their loans. As I stated above "if your finances permit" and if you know that they do not, then it's not the best idea. I'm not saying at all that WCU isn't extremely expensive, but that has nothing to do w/ the program in itself. Most people who I see bashing WCU are either those who started attending but got kicked out because they failed out (they're very strict w/ grades and attendance) or those who cannot afford it and are mad at those who can, and succeed. I don't see why you feel the need to come on here and be negative but best of luck to you kid!

Well.....if you can afford it, then you can. If you can't....you can't. Me personally, have a 3.8 sci based gpa, I'm not waiting on a comm college list for years, just for an associates certificate. I agree it's expensive to most. But great school, I say if you're dedicated and your finances permit, then go ahead.

So how does it feel like to be a male nurse
I'm in nursing school right now, and honestly, I used to think I was being judge when I said I was becoming a nurse.... Whenever I'd tell someone I'm in school, and they'd ask what am I going to be, I'd say "well don't judge me, but a nurse". I didn't realize how ignorant that sounded! I love the field of nursing, and that's what I want to be! It feels great being a nursing student as a male, I know it'll feel even more amazing when it's official! Best of luck, I believe in you!

Should I work while in school?
Keeping the working to a minimum is ideal. However, for a lot of us, including myself, life still has it's curves while in school, so we have to work. The best advice I would say, is don't working somewhere that is flexible, because while in nursing school your schedule could change frequently, well at least in my program it does, so flexibility is key. Some terms I can try to manage 25-30 hrs at work, while others only 20-25. A lot of majors in college may not require an extensive amount of actual "studying" outside of just the normal homework assignments, but in nursing study time is definitely crucial, and necessary. So you'll want to keep in mind that you don't want the situation where if you're not at school you're working, and if you're not working you're at school. You'll want time in-between for studies. You got this! I believe in you!

Feel like I don't know anything
I could imagine you and others would feel this way, there's so much to learn in nursing school! And not a whole lot of time for application! So, trust yourself, and be willing to still learn even though school is over! That'll be the key. You've clearly proven yourself this far! You got this! I believe in you!
-
How will I know when I am ready?
I don't think you'll ever feel 100% ready! But you're going to have to be confident and take that step for you, because it's what you want! Don't wait around for that fear or anxiety to go away! Jump in now while you're eager to work and to learn! Go for it! I believe in you!

WCU is a great program. It is expensive, and the job market for new grads is tough period, no matter what school you attend. WCU is a school you attend if you're 110% committed to nursing. Like I said before, it is expensive. But it's hard work.

Very expensive, but great school. Not too low of a passing rate actually. It's actually pretty good

A&P 1
I say the old fashion way of reading, reading, re reading, then reading again! I was in an accelerated A&P course, which was 8 weeks, we attended classes 3 days a week, and we had 3 exams a week. One day a chapter exam, next day a lab exam, so on and so forth. I never used flash cards because in A&P there's so much info, it's hard to point out what's important and what's not, you're be doing flash cards forever! But try it, see if this works for you! Lastly, I say dedicate your all to re course, it's actually fun, but it is rigorous, but you'll want to really dedicate the time to the material in order to really comprehend it, make t your life! I believe in you future nurse! You'll do great!

2.2gpa - need advice
I think LVN program would be great! I just want to say, any other classes you take, give your all too! Especially if you're in California, nursing is so crowded, we have a million ppl trying to get into nursing school, and the minimum gpa of 2.5 may allow you to be eligible to apply, however you're up against applicants who are pulling 4.0's. So with that said, I realllyyy believe in you! Give your absolute all to it, that may require letting go out some stuff for a while an shutting out a lot of ppl....also, keep in mind that some schools in California will knock off points on admission for retaking courses, so try to keep this to a minimal. I believe in you future nurse!

Anatomy
I think all of what was said is previous comments is completely accurate...I was in an 8 week accelerated A&P as well, and I never did flash cards, I tried didn't work because there's so much info, you'll being doing flash cards forever with no time to actually study them. My instructor gave us entire packets of notes & emailed power points for every chapter. What worked for me was just reading, reading, re reading, and reading more! Diagrams were the same, just memorization, knowing it in your sleep. I would dream about A&P. The best thing to do is to dedicate this time to that class, and that class only. Especially since it's accelerated, you'll really need to dedicate the time to the material to comprehend it, which will be hard at times because every class period you'll be on to the next chapter, well at least in my class we had class 3 days a week, a chapter a day, test every single day, one day a lab exam, next day chapter exams, exams 3 days a week! Just learn as much as you can, and you have to really indulge! Make it fun! You'll do great!

Commuting for Accredited school vs Non Accredited?
Well, you'd want to choose the school that's accredited especially if you plan to continue your nursing education, but if not then you'll be fine as long as you get your license.
