How do you find out how much do RN's/New Grads get paid in diffrent hospitals?

Published

Hi everyone! I am looking for a job and curious if there's any way to find out how much I will be paid( approximately)?

Thanks for taking your time and answering my question

Specializes in ICU, Home Health, Camp, Travel, L&D.

Sometimes salary ranges will be posted in HR.

Specializes in Psych, EMS.

I ask my friends and they ask me. I also find out what my peers are making on allnurses. I am open about my salary, and appreciate when other people are too. I wish discussing salary wasn't taboo...many people are tight-lipped which is a disservice to all of us. Knowing what others are paid helps us know what we are worth so that we can demand it and keep wages high

fyi..I made $23.50/hr as a new grad in Texas

Specializes in Critical Care.

GoldenGirl i have a quick question if you dont mind:

im a soon to be RN grad in houston....do you live by a major metro area? what type of setting/unit are you on?

sorry to intrude, haha but this is helpful info so I know what i might be looking at soon enough.

thanks!

this is very true i dont know why people are like that,..... someone should make an allnursesalary website were real nurses can post there pay and that way we can drive wages up!!!!!!

im in MIAMI florida, when i was a new RN IN 2003 THE DEMAND WAS SUPER HIGH FOR NURSE AND A SMALL COMMUNITY HOSPITAL STARTED ME AT 26.14

I WORK AGENCY NOW AND I RANGE FROM 33 TO 42 DEPENDING ON THE HOSPITAL IM IN

Specializes in NICU.

This is a difficult question because it depends on years of experience, what hospital, what area, and what specialty you are going in. Salary.com is a good starting place to see the pay range and expect to be on the lower side if you don't have that experience. The best way to find out is ask someone in that exact position and place. Some people are touchy about salaries on this site because that shouldn't be the motivating factor for a job. Otherwise all nurses would be CRNAs. I was told what my salary was after I accepted the job. I was a new grad so I was more happy that I found the job I was looking for than what I would be earning. I learned after I finished orientation I would get a raise and I also didn't anticipate the extra pay I got for my location (major city) and night shift differential. I know it is nice to try to anticipate exactly how much you will earn, but if you just plan your finances thinking you will earn on the way lower side, it will be much easier to budget in the end. Good luck! :)

:vlin: "money shouldnt be a motivating factor" come again?

if nobody needs the money lets just volunteer.....

ridicilous!!! whomever says this is in management and/or owner they are using that to scare you into not asking for more

its are right to ask for more pay! we are comapssionate caring loving nurses

but in the end its a job just like anyother, we all have bills! I WANT TOP DOLLAR i dont know about the rest of you!!!!!

First off, yes you heard that right: money SHOULDN'T be the only motivating factor! Maybe one should consider the location of the hospital to their home, flexible hours, the training program, benefits, NURSE SATISFACTION levels. Yeah that's right, you couldn't pay me enough money to work somewhere with unsafe staffing levels and poor management. Money alone doesn't make you happy.

I didn't say nobody needs money, way to take what I said in the completely opposite direction.

I am by no means in any type of management.

I like my pay and live very comfortably but I also know nursing isn't going to make me a millionaire. Yes nurses may deserve more in pay, but so do hard-working teachers, police officers, fire fires, soldiers, etc!

Many people are tightlipped because their employer forbids discussion of salary.

I started at 27.00 for orientation (new grad) 29.50 after orientation with $2.75 night differential in Southern California. This is the lower end of the spectrum. Most of the hospitals here start at 32.00 with a $4 night differential. Some hospitals will offer $2 BSN differential.

thanks for sharing. yes, i agree that money should not be the motivating factor for a job, but after spending 4-5 years in school being jobless from times to times, having 2 kids, and living on financial aid, it's very exciting and thrilling to think about being able to work and be paid finally. sorry, if my post brought up some controversies, but i just wanted to know how to find out about your salary since it is a very touchy topic.

thank to everyone again
