How long does it take you to get to school and clinicals? Both schools I applied to are an hour away. When am I supposed to sleep w/ being at school/clinicals all day and having to get up SO early just to get there on time?! Geez :/

My school is between 8-15 minutes away depending on traffic. I believe the furthest clinical site is about a half hour in heavy traffic.
It takes me app. 45 min. to an hour(1 way) to get to school. It depends on how many farmers, tractors & wagons are in the way! Right now my clinicals are about 25-30 mins. from my house. Next semester we I will travel app. 98 miles (1 way) to my clinicals.I really dread that since it will probally be in the snow & ice.
LOL CRB, If you weren't in Kentucky, I'd swear you and I were traveling the same back country roads. It's a nice straight shot, but almost an hour drive - throw in a few farmers, tractors, etc. and a school bus or two that stop every 10 feet to pick up the kids and that will really slow you down. Like most of you, I'm also worried about driving on these back roads this winter. I'm in the South and although we don't get tons of snow, we get lots of ice and it makes for some pretty dangerous driving.
Not sure about everyone else that drives a long way - but with gas prices so high, filling up the tank twice a week just to get to school is killing us. I have 17 more months to go in school and keep trying not to think about how much it's going to cost me in gas. I guess it's one of the many sacrifices we have to make to do this.
The nursing school is exactly 2 miles from my house. Clinicals sites vary, but never any more than 20 minutes away. The site I'm at now is about 15 minutes away, but since they're at 6:30 am I can get there in about 10 min! I do feel really forunate too after reading this thread, I guess that's one advantage I have of living in such a small town..... nothing is over 30 minutes away, otherwise you're going out of town! lol
I hate driving. I picked a school in town because I hate driving. My school is no more than ten minutes away.
The first half of clinical we were at a hospital that was 40 minutes from my home. It usually took me an hour because I would go out of my way to get my carpool partner (she doesn't like to drive alone).
The second half of clinical we are at a clinic that is a two minute drive from my home.
Next semester we are at a hospital next to the clinic. Again, it takes two minutes to get there.
My school is around 65 miles from my house. We have class 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. Clinical sites vary - my clinical site this semester was around 50 miles from home, but next semester it could be from 30-130 miles away. We'll also be doing 12-hour clinical shifts in the spring.. eek! Thank goodness I have family to help out with the kids (6 and 3)!

My College is only 10 minutes away! This semester's clinical assignment is about 20 minutes. Not bad at all. However, next semester, my clinical site could be up to an hour each way.
