How did your employer recognize Nurse's Day?

Published

After having nurse's day come and go without our employer even acknowledging the fact that it was nurse's day, am just curious as to how other employers honor their nurses on that day? Look forward to your responses!!

Our facility didn't even acknowledge it at all! If it hadn't been for me telling my Nurse Manager; "Happy Nurse's week.", she would not have known that it was Nurse's week or Nurse's Day. They use to give a gift, even flowers. And, we used to vote on a nurse, overall, from our facility. But, not this year. What gives??? Makes you want to seek satisfaction & employment elsewhere. We have had so many cutbacks and benefits taken away this year & no pay increase/raise, some are looking elsewhere. I don't blame them. NHSC Mt. Airy, NC

Our facility marked the day with mindlessly sophomoric boosterism. Meh.

They named a "nurse of the year" ... and there was food -- mostly, high-fat high-carb food. I guess they are trying to kill us.

We had a fun ice-cream social and then a raffle for prizes (at my secondary employer). Every nurse eventually won a prize. Prizes varied from vinyl backpacks, vinyl lunch carriers, date books, and other thoughtful items.

Does any other professional group such as doctors, lawyers or other such types have a "day" set aside where they are honored?

Our manager sent each of us a form letter in the mail thanking us for our work. It was very nice. I would have rather had the high calorie high carb food though.

The facility where I work acutally does make a big deal out of Nurses Day the entire week. The highlight is breakfast prepared by our unit manager. There is juice, waffles, fruit, assorted cereals, bagals, coffee, tea. Throughout the entire hospital employees vote for their peers in various categories such as Compasion, Knowledge, Collaboration, etc. The voting is strictly by staff. Voting is done by nomination and citing examples of why you feel this nurse deserves this award. The winners receive a scholarship and many use this scholarship to attend annual Oncology Congress Conference. The awards are presented at a luncheon and the winners are showcased in our unit newsletter. Some years we have received welcomed gifts such as notebooks, lunch carriers, etc. On Nurses Day, our chaplain has a ceremony and "blesses" our hands. I feel that we all are valuable employees of this facility and it shows by our job satisfaction polls. I wouldn't want to work at any other facility. :redbeathe

Maybe I heard something once about teacher's day (?) but I'm not sure. Anyway, we SHOULD be honored, because we're all fantastic . (Sort of kidding, but really, my fellow nurses are wonderful. I'm lucky.)

BTW, my facility did not acknowlegde nurses day or nurses week.....

There is a physician day, it was a month or two ago, they recognized that day.

Several years ago my hospital changed from recognizing "nurses week" to now calling it "employee appreciation month". yep we have the chaplain's doing hand blessings, rigged award ceremonies, strong arming the docs to give us food....many times you can't get your little treat until you answer a JACHO question. my favorite part is how they offer "chair massages", but they are in the nursing/staffing office and so all those nurse office job types sign up.. Ugh... those of us caring for the patients can't leave the unit.

I know my patients appreciate me and some of my co workers, in the end, that is what gets me through the shift!!:nurse::nurse:

my manager gave us a palm sized LED flashlight w/ the hospital's name on it. :clown:
