How did you cover your tuition costs?

Hi everyone!!

Im beginning to get very stressed and I haven't even started NS yet. Im starting to think I might not even make it that far ::crying2:. Im enrolled in an accelerated BSN program at Chamberlain college of nursing, and im suppose to be starting in October. The tuition there is very pricey. I got some money for school through fafsa and I also recieved a few scholarships. But i still have quite a bit left to cover. How have you all paid for school? just loans? or what?

I'm doing an ADN program and we're paying for it. Like with checks. No more loans, ever.

I will be paying for the same program with a Grant, Loans, and as bad as it sounds my husband's leftover grant money! We are both in school and he gets a surplus of financial aid, we have decided his surplus will go towards by deficit! Thankfully that works out well in my favor. I also have a bunch of the pre-reqs/general studies classes done so I will be taking fewer classes at Chamberlain, therefore it is going to cost less.

Did you register for classes yet? I am going Friday to register!

I'm doing a BSN. I went to a CC for my AS, then chose a cheaper university for the nursing program. I'm using savings, scholarships and unsubsidized loans.

Three words: Mommy and Daddy.

Although...that's not completely true. I wouldn't have chosen to come to this school if I hadn't gotten a scholarship (it's for $10,000/year, so a fair chunk of the tuition, but it only covers 2 of my 4 years of school due to the nature of my program).

But I also wouldn't be able to be at this school if my mom's job didn't cover 1/3 of my tuition all 4 years.

My husband and I were planning on using our savings, but my father died while I was doing pre-reqs, and my inheritance and a couple of scholarships pay for school.

Thanks Dad...I miss you, and I think you'd be proud of the way I'm using your gift. :redbeathe

I worked for a year as an HCA while I was on the waiting list to save up money for my program. I have enough for my entire tuition saved up. But I am planning to work during my breaks and summer vacation.

Student loans, grants, gifts and working.... pretty much the majority is on loans.

It is tough, but in the end it will be worth it.

Good luck.

I registered at Chamberlain last week :D and I have a month to come up with the tuition...I'm still scrambling to figure that out. I think I'm going to have to take out student loans:crying2:. My soon-to-be hubby has $25,000 in savings for college that he didn't touch for undergrad, that would pay for EVERYTHING! Books, supplies, tuition, everything...but his mother won't let me touch it, even though he says he wants me to use it. My fiance isn't the best at college. He's smarter than me, but his mind isn't as organized and as disciplined as most college students. He has a BBA and some other degree but is undecided about going back. Personally, if it weren't for his mom pressuring him, I don't think he'd have ANY interest in going back for more school. If he did, I'd be able to put him through on my nursing sallary, so I'm really bitter that she won't let us use the money the way WE want to...it is HIS money, not his mom's...grr!

Grant, scholarship, mom & dad, and a part time job. Will graduate with no debt, I count my lucky stars.

No one mentioned housing and other bills. I'm a mom of two boys and my husband is a carpenter but has been laid off for the last year! I make all the money now and he gets an unemployment check but my fear is what will I do while in NS? I am super stressed about this, I'm suppose to start in the Spring of 2011.

Your full financial aid budget does include some cash for housing and bills. I can live, somewhat modestly, on what they provide. I don't imagine it's enough to cover a family's expenses by itself, but it should help.

Talk to your school's financial aid office and see how much they budget in addition to tuition and fees.
