I pretend to suddenly develop a hearing problem. Sorry, what did you say " What...what, can't hear you? Can you speak up? â€
Has to be done with a straight face!
I also mimic whatever they are doing. That depends on the Dr of course. Some idiots simply haven't got a sense of humor.
Psych consults are the best. They're intimidated by medical jargon and think medical nurses are crazy anyway, so you can get away with murder sometimes. Ask them a good cardiology or metabolic D/O question or autoimmune and watch them flounder. You don't even have to know the answer.
Ask them about hearing voices and pretend you've just heard one. Did you hear that ?"
Got to have fun sometimes!
What do others do?
Ah! Katie and Seveñs, a BsN is quite adequate for me thanks. My intelligence allows me the confidence to engage like this knowing full well I can hold my own and I can assure you that other confident, self assured people, also quickly understand the complexities of banter, wittisms and jest! I am also similarly open to pranks and clever original actions, it helps me identify trustworthy, creative people. The sort of people who back you up and are not too uptight and anal to recognize the importance of relieving stress and not being a stickler for rules instead of solutions.I run a consultancy business and every opportunity to work the floors, I jump on, because nurses are inspirational and brave and we occupy a niche of consideration that few other professions aspire to.
Laughter is the best medicine.
Lighten up people!!
So pretty much you're calling everyone who doesn't think as you do unconfident, with a stick up our rear and dim witted. Are you always so arrogant and presumptuous? I have a great sense of humor and laughs with my coworkers all shift, however that doesn't mean I have to indulge in adolescent games with doctors. Not all of us need to massage our egos and attention seek during a busy shift. Grow up and stop judging those who believe and act differently than you do.
I think I'm lucky Most of our doctors are great and work WAY harder/more hours than me, so I would feel bad to annoy them. There is one female doc that I'm pretty sure hates her job. She walks in with a screwed up face that looks like she's been sucking on a lemon. I try to find a way to make her smile and consider it a success when it works. It doesn't always, and sometimes she's a witch, but it doesn't really bother me. We do have one doc that has a way of making you feel stupid when you ask him for anything. I can't stand that. But he intimidates me too much to make me want to annoy him. The rest... we get along just great.
.....Tell you what, I love people who take themselves too seriously though. Nothing amuses me more and I love being amused!
I said to a colleague the other day "this is much to much of a serious job to be serious about it all the time"
Doesnt mean I am giggling all over the place or being unprofessional or inappropriate or EVER compromising on patient care, it simply means that sometimes its either share a moment of humour with the doctors/nurses/physios around us or go completely barking mad.
Like those times when you have to ring a family member and tell them that if their loved one wants to see their parent before the parent dies they need to come now because coming at the end of january is going to be too late.
Or when you've had a patient with terminal delerium who has screamed for the last six hours and you've given them all the medication possible and would be enough to put anyone else into a coma and its has no effect on your patient
That said, one needs to be fairly confident that the doctor/health professional one is sharing a moment with is going to get the humour. I'm really lucky the doctors that service our hospital are brilliant
OP, a lot of people weren't amused by your humor. According to you, that means that they have no sense of humor or they need "to lighten up."
There's also another possibility that you conveniently omitted:
Maybe you really aren't all that funny, witty, or clever. Not everything is funny. Not everyone is funny. Some people are blessed with the ability to amuse others. Maybe you just don't have it.
I find it interesting that Avid reader has not posted in a couple of days, though she has been lurking around at least a couple of times.
I note this only because I find people's behavior, and in this case, Avid reader's, to be extremely interesting. One moment she's "all up in your face" and the next minute she's scurrying around like a little rat.
What gives?

Simply put a troll stirring the pot. Probably planning the next post to create a ruckus:rolleyes:
