Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2021 Applicants

Published

I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.

I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!

Nope! I applied to TMC as well and never heard back after pre screen

Okay, well that makes me a feel a bit better! I've yet to see that anyone was heard back from them so hopefully they're just really behind. Fingers crossed.

Congrats to you on the offer though!

I'm in their StaRN program! Their pay is $28.50/H (or so). Also just found out last week that not a lot of people get sign up bonuses. They have multiple start dates. I'm part of their FB group and it seems there's a start every week LOL. Yes there's a two year contract. Apparently you can "switch" your position if you talk to your hiring manager whenever there's an open position at the unit you would like. Like if you get hired for Medsurg (you signed the contract and you've started the program), you can talk to your manager to see of you can be transferred to whatever unit you want. Obviously that doesn't guarantee you will get transferred but maybe. Also I talked to someone last year who was hired for a unit and then she got asked if she'd like to go to another unit and continue her residency there (she went from a med surg type of unit to a cvicu unit). I will say that, they're a little um "shady" when you get a call from a hiring manager about interviewing for X unit. What I mean is that someone I knew from the didactic part of the program interviewed for an ICU unit (or IMU can't remember) and then afterwards she found out it was a covid unit. IDK if she didn't ask questions during her interview or if they dodged that question but that happened. Also someone else was hired for another ICU unit in another location and during week 4 of our program which is when we go to our facilities for a few days, she got told she may/can/will float to a covid unit and she wasn't very onboard with that when she told us. I was also sort of blindsided when I got a call from a recruiter asking if I'd like an interview between 3 different units and the unit I chose as a first choice would be something but it was something else which I found out during my interview but by then I couldn't ask for another interview from the recruiter. After my initial disappointment from partially my misunderstanding, I do enjoy and like my unit now (I'm on the preceptorship part of the program). So be very direct with your questions during your interview so you don't get blindsided once you're already legally hired!

Hi! what unit are you on? I have my peer interview next week for IMCU

I’ve accepted it for now. Good luck on yours! Maybe we’ll be HCA L&D buddies LOL

So I went ahead and sent an email to a recruiter last night and she responded this morning saying the next ER cohort that I could be in won't start until 7/12 which is fine but she said they'll just call me closer to that time... not sure when that would be. Maybe I should email her again in a month or so?

which location ?

The person that I contacted was the same person that emailed me after I applied in March, her name was Melanie and my understanding is she's a recruiter for TMC because that's where I applied for

Does anyone know if the St. Luke's interview on April 16th is a group interview?

Has anyone emailed Methodist TMC? Like what is going on, don't tell people by the 1st then keep them waiting over a week after that with no contact

Is the covid vaccine mandatory for workers at any of these hospitals?

I believe Houston Methodist just made it mandatory but someone double check me on that.
