Housing in Charleston

Published

Recently hired at Trident Medical Center in Charleston and have several questions. First, I will need to live in an apartment for the first 2-4 months when I move down there...any suggestions on good appartment locations in the Summerville area (near Trident). Secondly, my girlfriend will be moving down in several months and I would like advice on good locations to look for a house. We are interested in West Ashley at the moment but would like to hear what locals have to say.

Thank you for your responses in advance.

My niece lives in Summerville. I'll find out and try to get back with you. I live way across the state. My SIL lives in North Charleston which wouldn't be my choice but she likes it.

I asked my niece for you . She said she would recommend Summerville. She lives in a townhouse there, just having moved from West Ashley. The prices are high everywhere due to the gas and utilities increasing lately. Trident has two hospitals in the Summerville area. Which will you be working?

Thank you for talking to your niece. I will be working at the Trident Medical Center (the big one I think). The reason we were looking at West Ashley is that my fiance will be moving down in the next few months and will probably be working at either MUSC or RSF. However, we have looked at a few houses in the Summerville area and they are very large and reasonably priced. Thanks again for the input and let me know if you have any further information.

Oakbrook area in Summerville gives you access to Trident via ladson road (Summerville Medical Center which is part of the Trident Hospital System is located in the Oakbrook area as well), and there are some new apartments near I-26 exit 199 in Summerville behind the Target and Walmart, that are pretty nice. charleston.net is the website for the newpaper The Post and Courier.

If living in West Ashley is the goal, depending on where in West Ashley, MUSC or Roper Hospital Downtown are closer workplaces, and St. Francis if you're looking in the upper Hwy. 61/Shadowmoss area.

Trident, is off 78, close to Rivers Ave. Many places there also.

Goose Creek is a great area and about 5 minutes from the hospital. I had clinical there when I went to MUSC and it was sooo nice having such a short drive. I'm actually selling my house because I just commissioned into the Navy and will be moving to Portsmouth.

I have a large new house in Summerville and would like to look for a roommate for a few months or a year. Is there a place that travel nurses go to when they want to find housing? I would like to post pictures of it.

Charleston is one of the areas that my husband and I are looking to relocate to, can anyone tell me what areas have the better school districts?

There are the Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester 2 and Dorchester 4 districts. As a whole, Dorchester 2 across the board is usually considered the best district. There are some really good schools in Charleston but there are also several schools that are pretty bad. Berkeley is okay, depends really where.

Thank you live4rachael
