Shepherd Center in Atlanta
Hi, I am interested in finding more information about the Shepherd Center. Can anyone help? I see postings about the other hospitals in the Atlanta area, but very little on the Shepherd Center. Can anyone give any information about working at the Shepherd Center? What is your experience working here? What are some pros/cons to working here? What is the atmosphere like during the week vs weekends? Is there a difference between weekends and baylor commitment? Do they offer on-going education to staff to keep up to date with knowledge and skills? Do you feel supported by leadership? Thank you for any information that you share. It will be helpful!

anyone considering working at musc
cursedandblessed thanks for the info. Wow! that's a lot of money to pay for parking for one day. I have worked at hospitals where you had to pay for parking, but it was free for employees. It is absolutely true about every facility having it's pros and cons. Working in the medical field for the past 12 years, I have learned every place has it's issues. Again thank you for the information and if you can think of anything else, I'd appreciate it. I would appreciate it from anyone else who is reading this as well. Thanks!

anyone considering working at musc
Thank you scmedasst. The two day w/o pay is not bad when you look at still having a job. I could live with that. Where is East Cooper located? I am looking for a facility with a nice working environment and pays decent. I really appreciate the info. I don't mind the travel because I have traveled an hour and 10 minutes to get to work in the past. If you can think of anything else I would appreciate any info. You can also pm me if you like. Thanks!

anyone considering working at musc
Hello everyone! I was wondering if there are any LPNs that work at MUSC, Trident, or any of the other facilities in the Charleston area that could give me any info about any of these facilities. I am seriously thinking about moving to this area and would like some insight. I am moving to SC next month and Charleston is at the top of the list. As I stated, any information about ANY of the facilities would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't matter if it's a hospital, nursing home, LTC, ALF, SNF, VA hospital, etc. Thanks in advance!

VCI - LPN Students/Grads
nccatim, I am still waiting to take the nclex. I have not applied or looked into any jobs yet. I am waiting until after I take it. I know that a lot of the hospitals are limiting the amount of LPNs they hire. They tend to go through a cycle of hiring, limiting how many to hire, and not hire any. They are always trying to figure out if they want to utilize LPNs. Nursing homes are always taking LPNs. I wish you good look in the program. Just remember, what you put into learning is what you get back. Don't be afraid to ask the instructor questions if you need help. The ones that I had was always willing to help.

VCI - LPN Students/Grads
Hi nccatim, I graduated from the program so I no longer attend. For the most part everyone is very friendly. When you start, it's nice to get to know or even be cordial with the nursing students who are semesters ahead of you. Ask them questions about their experiences while being in the program. Most are willing to tell you the good and bad. Form your own opinions, but listen to the ones you get and decipher what is important to help you along the way.

What about practical nursing programs??
If you go to the VA Board of Nursing they have a list of all the schools approved to operate in VA. In the Hampton Roads area they range from 12-18 months, depending on where you go. The price ranges from about $3500 and up to as much as 30k. Know that if you pick a proprietor school you will pay more money because they are in business to educate, but ultimately to make money. Good Luck!

VCI - LPN Students/Grads
I know it has been some time since you asked, but I am a student there and my overall experience is a good one. I feel like the teachers really care about your success in the program. What you put into it is what you get back and I personally believe that is at any nursing school. There is now a new DON and I believe she is making really good changes for the school. As students we have been told some of the things we are required to do in our classes are done in RN programs. For me that's a good thing, especially if you plan on going back to school to get your RN. I hope that this helps you.

Sentara Rehire Policy
I use to work for Sentara and when I resigned I gave less than a two week notice. I decided to reapply less than a year later, so I called HR and asked what was my status when I resigned. I was put down as being able to be rehired. Hopefully they still allow former employees to check and see if they were put down as a rehire or no rehire. All you can do is try!

TEAS test
I took the TEAS to get into PN school and was no allowed to use a calculator, but was offered scratch paper.

NO EVEING RN OR LPN Classes available
I am not sure what area you are in, but Fortis College ( formerly VCI ) has a LPN program with classes during the day and evening. I believe NSU has an evening program for the RN program. I hope this helps some.
