It won't happen, but at least I can protest here ?

A Hot glue gun also were the cause of the one of worst burns I saw in school. HS student was dared by a couple of other students to put his palm into a pile of fresh very hot glue. 2nd degree burn the size of a quarter in the middle of his palm. Called Mom and she was livid...at him, for doing something so stupid.

I'm glad the mom was livid at the kid and not the school!

They are not used very often here, but when they are I ALWAYS get kids coming in complaining they got burned, because they touched the glue "to see if it was really hot". Well, YES, YES it is hot! :banghead:

OUCH! Hot glue is so awful!

I'm torn on wanting to ban things that cause injury (dodgeball, tetherball, glue guns, etc). While I don't want kids to get hurt, I want them to learn to safely navigate the world and they need to be exposed to "unsafe" things to learn how to work safely with those things.

I’m not a school nurse, but I’m a parent and I wanted to thank you for saying this. I know the nurses have to deal with all the injuries and it gets old! But I’ve seen people on here calling to ban everything from glue guns to monkey bars. As the parent of a 7-yo, I WANT him to use these things and it’s FINE if he gets injured. (His BFF fell of the monkey bars and broke her arm— that’s part of life!). My child is uncoordinated and clumsy, and the only way for him to improve is to practice. He needs to learn to be careful with a glue gun, and getting his fingers singed is probably the way to learn it.

I'm glad to hear they're letting the kids use hot glue guns!

This is not a nursing story, but it is a hot glue gun story. One year my niece wanted to be Medusa for Hallowe'en. Her mother was hot-gluing rubber snakes onto a wig...

Little One ended up being something else that year.

Which is why it's nice to come on here and vent in a joking/halfhearted manner to those that get it because we don't have a "nurses station" to be able to do so.
Please know that I am not up in arms screaming for a ban on things that might be considered potentially dangerous. If I was, I wouldn't be taking it up on here.

That's what I love about our board! I just ventured out into the rest of AllNurses and it's a madhouse!

Oh hot glue guns. I always cringe when I smell them because I KNOW I'm going to see a few kiddos that day.
