Hi everyone,
does anyone know of a website with pictures regarding the damage of hot cheetos/takis chips on kids teeth enamel and cause of heartburn in kids. My school allows kids to have these chips during lunch if the kid brings them from home. Worse I've seen teachers eating them as well.

Thanks,

My school cafeteria sells them! I don't have any data on them, but in my experience they are a big cause of post-lunch nausea and vomiting. Between that and fish stick day, I know I am going to have a busy afternoon.

Student: Miss, my stomach hurts
Me: (looking at child's fingers - they're orange) What did you eat at lunch?
Student: enchiladas (or crispito or nachos or corn chip pie) and all my hot cheetos
Me: mmm...how about if you lay down for a few minutes and then we'll get you back to class?
Me: (with stu on the way back to class) tomorrow, no more hot cheetos, okay?
Yep! Happens all the time!

Our cafeteria sells them also. What are they thinking?! When I have a student who has a stomach ache, vomiting, or nausea after lunch, I always ask them what they had at lunch. More often than not, Hot Cheetos. I then go into my lecture voice as I get them water and let them rest for 10 minutes.

I have children who deliberately eat Hot Cheetos and then make themselves throw up. The little ones have learned only to eat a handful, or they will be sick all afternoon. Today, I wouldn't let three sixth graders go home who "vomited" Hot Cheetos. I've warned them about them. They were just trying to go home. Since so many do throw up with them though, why isn't there a warning label on them? One of our parents let us know of her niece that had to have her stomach flushed due to the Hot Cheetos. I truly would like to know what they are thinking? Are there other health professionals who see this as a health problem, not due to fat content, but because of the heartburn, GERD, and vomiting? Not to mention, the diarrhea....

I'm assuming Flamin' Hot Cheetos.

Many of our Hispanic kids bring the hot chips . .. never had anyone get sick from them.
I'm surprised by this . . .. I've eaten the hot Cheetos and so has my son and never gotten sick.
Obviously it isn't something we do a lot . . in fact I've probably done it once.
Is there a link that says the hot chips cause vomiting?
(edited to add . . I just asked my son what the chips are called that his Hispanic friends bring and he said "Takis". I asked him if anyone gets sick. He said no. But "you have to be careful not to get any stuck in your throat because they burn". )
My husband is addicted to Flamin' Hot Cheetos. I buy him a bag and they are gone. I will eat a handful every now and then, but neither of us have gotten sick from them. I guess kiddos are different!
I don't know . . like I said, none of the kids who eat them where I work have gotten sick. I'm headed there now . . . I'm gonna ask around.

None of my own children have ever gotten sick from eating hot cheetos (not saying that there aren't children who do). That's about the only chips my oldest son will eat.
As far as I know, they are not banned at my school. They stopped selling all chips in the cafeteria at my school for some reason. I can tell you that HAS NOT cut down on the number of nurse's office visits!
