There are hospitals but you will have to contact them be aware however that many nurses in the US especially new grads are struggling to find work and you as a nurse looking for sponsorship will find it hard due to the long wait for a visa

I know in the past this was the practice, but with so many American RNs unemployed from 2009, new classes graduating in 2010, hospitals closing, surgery down, how could an American Hospitals justify sponsoring a foreign nurse at this time ?
In the US, we are counseling the unemployed RNs to hold on to their non nursing jobs. These are American Citizens that will paying their loans with non nursing positions, do you think that they would support a hospital in their community that hired foreign nurses over there own local grads?
From a public relations viewpoint, if a foreign nurse with no experience got hired over a US unemployed RN, I can guarantee the community would be calling their congressmen, senators, and local officials. With the new health care reform, costs that Medicare would reimburse for ( recruiting nurses and other allied health members) are eliminated so the hospital would have to eat 100% of the costs of recruitment.
So from a business viewpoint, how could recruiting foreign nurses be cost effective ? Most hospitals depend on community support , donations would go down since why would one donate to a local hospital that does not support its service area?
Sorry for being so negative, but I have traveled l the US coast to coast ( I am on my second cross country trip this year) I haven't seen any hospitals begging for nurses. I will give foreign grads the same advice I give the native nurses, don't give up your current job, don't expect your first job to be in a hospital, don't expect your first job to be full time. Considering a foreign nurse needs a full time position and most nursing homes don't sponsor nurses, I would say the chances of finding a foreign sponsor today are very very low.

US hospitals for the most part, accept few, if any, US nurses with little or no experience. I doubt they would be making special allowances for inexperienced foreign grads.
thank for your replies!

Once again, more irrelevant and uncalled for ranting and raving about sponsorship of foreign nurses.
The question was whether you need experience to get sponsored. The answer is: yes, usually.

I have to disagree with you, basically no hospitals are sponsoring anyone, I know Ghilbert you are a very talented nurse but I am also very experienced especially with hospital reimbursement, for example UPMC was cited with 30 violations with Medicare and Medicaid, my hospital had a similar experience and have zero violations. I would say I am effective in analyzing, communicating, and implementing Medicare/ Medicaid rules. I am also one of my numerous certifications is in Case Management.
I was criticized by you for being not being polite, I was giving the rationale for my answer so I will not aware rude.
?????????????????
I have no idea what on earth your last post meant. I mean, really no idea. I made no comment about what you do, and no comment about what I do. I don't really care how many medicare violations your hospital has and I have no idea what on earth that has to do with whether or not foreign-educated nurses need experience.

????????= I have knowledge about the finances of a hospital, where resources go, If I was UPMC, my job would be in jeopardy since having 30 violations meaningthat very poor care is being deliverd. I was under the impression you worked there based on your previous posts.
How this relates to foreign nurses is the fact I am made aware through seminars, web casts, and email what is going on with Medicare and Medicaid which is the financial heart of over 5,000 hospitals in the USA.
My answer once again, I doubt in the near future any foreign grads will be hired since the hospital will not get any extra compenstation for their costs for orientation, housing, and transportation. Medicare is now forecasting to 2013. Some private hospitals that don't accept medicare ( which are very few ) could hire anyone, but if they are private, they probably don't want to shoulder the expense.
Obviously you're very confused, as I have nothing whatsoever to do with CMS regulations, violations or reimbursement at that or any other hospital. I work in a clinical position. Which again, has NOTHING to do with the question asked by the OP.
Or perhaps you were implying that I provide poor care and my job may be in jeopardy.. I couldn't tell.
People shouldn't try and push their own agendas on here. If you don't want to answer people's questions as asked, and have an obvious problem with foreign educated nurses, then perhaps you should post in a different forum.
