Hi Ho, If I was in your predicament I would check out cheap stores, tinsel I can get for 2 dollars a strand, cheap decorations for the tree. Came across 3 glass angels for 2.99 altogether sooo beautiful to hang on the tree. See if I can scrounge stuff off friends, family etc...
Love garage sales, yes you can buy christmas stuff from some of them just before Chrissy, I have in the past.
Tell you what is really effective in decorating a hall, this was done at the nursing home I work in. Use double sided tape to stick the top of balloons to the ceiling and have a piece of shiny ribbon hang from the base, have many, many balloons close together down the hallway it feels like a christmas wonderland, sooo beautiful!!! Have had nothing but the WOW factor from people! We used pearly white balloons and shiny blue ribbon (one strand) hanging of each individual balloon. I strongly recommend this and its cheap too! Trust me you will want to use a balloon pump not blow manually!!
Candy cane is great to use on the tree if you have room in the hallway to put a tree up, maybe encourage workers to buy a gift say 10 dollars and put under the tree and do a swap of gifts just before christmas with the ones who paid for a gift.
All our trees and deco's are up, so pretty! We are having a competion with the 3 areas there scu, hostel and nursing home for the best christmas display out of the above areas. (Off track here)
Hang in there mate, you can do it for 50 dollars. S-T-R-E-T-C-H that budget.
Bye Bye :Reindeer::Santa2::Santa3:

We are down several staff on day shift and moral is pretty low this year.Looks like a" fun" holiday....we have to pretend it is for the resident's sake....
the 50 dollars came from a 'vendor' the pharmacy we use gave it to us..... also like the hospice folks and everything sponsored a hall... i want to go all out **can you tell im a new nurse** lol and whoever wins they are giving us all the day off and taking us to whatever resturant we choose..... **the nurses, cma's, cna's ** woo hoo i wanna win

Ok, so in a another life, this is fun for me.. So here ya go.
Try making it personal. use snowflakes that you cut out, or snowmen,or trees and put everyones name on it, you can write in glue and sprinkle glitter or use glitter glue pens, Dollar stores usually have tons of stuff for real cheap. Get cheap ornaments and use them as a border, or tinsel works well. If you can do it.. lights and garland make everything look like the holidays, fake snow spray can look real (do it on paper for easy clean up) Try to encorporate your unit as much as possible(i know) you can make a countdown calender, or also get cheap stickers and decorate that way, as far as a theme, maybe focus on making it look attractive and fun, oh yeah, you can use white stuffing to staple on and look like snow!.. Hope this helped , let me know if i can help anymore !! Good luck with the project I know it will be Fantastic!! :Santa3: :icon_mrgreen:

Two words. DOLLAR STORE! I just bought about $15 of decorations for my floor and got quite a bit for that. I got cottony snowflakes with glitter on them - 4 to a pack, tons of garland for the nurses stations and around the pt windows. I would have got more if I wanted to spend like $50, lol.

just thought you might try Dollar Tree Stores they are based out of oklahoma i think but they have stores all over texas.....everything in their store is only a dollar.....wow..and i do mean everything...not like some who have dollar items and when u go to check out it is more than a dollar...i get individual ornaments and put co-workers and patients names on them for a little gift...it's great....hope this will help:balloons:

Great ideas here! One year when I worked in a nursing home, we decorated each resident's door like a gift...covered the door with pretty wrapping paper, then added ribbon and a bow...then personalized each door with pictures of toys, clothing, and other items they may have received when they were a child. Not only was it neat looking, but it was also a nice trip down memory lane for the residents.
I think the balloon idea would be neat, just be careful about the latex balloons..lots of latex allergies popping up, and many hospitals have banned the latex type of balloon.
Good luck!
The only other worry is that in such a multicultural world we live in now, you can't decorate for just Christmas, but be considerate of Haunakah and Kwanza as well.

it wouldn't be difficult to tally the religions/ethnicities in the facility.
with that said...
santa faces, lining the corridor.
buy the caps, eyes, nose, mouth:
cotton for the moustache;
and use folded diapers, as the beard. :Santa5:
you can tape the diaper, right to the wall.
voila!!

A suggestion...make paper garland. I have a 16 mo and wanted to make some kind of decoration to put up with her that she wouldn't tear down. We put them around the doors and down the hall and it looks SOOOO cute!!! Cheap too...$3 for two packages of constructin paper.
The residents can even help make them! :icon_lol:
