No one's hiring LVN's these days
hey everybody;just a little encouragement to all lvn/lpn all over the usa; if you need/want the best job of your career then sign up withthe veterans administration;no kidding;there is a hospital in every state, mutiple outpatient clinics and they are building more;federal gov benefits;san diego, houston, & new york highest pd in the system; I am starting my new career there as i have been an agency nurse for 15 years;immediate hire=5 weeks vacation,11 holidays, above average pay;have you ever heard of not getting paid? not here..they all kinds of extra money incentives;ie;spinal cord injury nurses, icu, er nurses get more;shift dif for evenings/nite and weekends;work a holiday=DOUBLE PAY......but no matter what the benefit package is..it stays the same or increases with longjevity and more education;they pay you to go to school; after 1yr they have program where u go to school and work when u r off school. How grat is that? There is only one joy better than that which is being able to take care of the veterans" who gave everything tey had and more so I could be free..Their's is the ultimate sacrifice;Mine is a honor to now serve them. May the angels wings suround you and protect you:

No one's hiring LVN's these days
I am in Houston working in the medical center, This is where a majority of the major hospitals are. Although they are expanding in every direction making sure their hospital is able to compete with the next. By this I mean memorial hermann is either across the street or down the street from st. luke's. with more and more people moving and visiting houston there is always going to be a job if you want it. good luck.

What type of fields can an LVN work in?
:welcome: I am LVN(Texas)of 15+ years. I have worked many places because I am an agency nurse. Getting a solid med/surg background wil propel you forward..as you will always have a job. Each state has restricitons and decides how to hire or not lvn/lpns. Check with your state board and see what your restrictions are. Also check with lpn's in different facitlites to see what they can an can't do? Good Luck to you.:monkeydance:

LPN Online Competency Exams Pre-Hire
I have been an agency nurse for 15+ years and I have never had to pre-qualify my skills...meaning I never took test before they gave me the job. When I initially started I came from private duty and was trying to get in the hopital. It was hard as when I graduated in the early '90's they were actually laying off RN's and had no place for the graduating RN's. Wow! Imangine that! It sure is different now.:balloons:

Deaf nurses
I just am encouraging you through nursing school,CONGRATS! You are have an angel in your daughter. My niece was born deaf ('83). She also failed all the test. She wore amplifiers when she was little. Before I learned ASL I was a traveling nurse so I did not see her much. We learned how to make our own sighn language as the family was learning ASL. I am not sure what part of US you are in but Rochester, New York has one of the largest deaf communities around. I agree if we are forced to learn Spanish it would be more appropriate to learn ASL. It has been frustrating to help a patient who has a languange barrier, but there is the light when you know what they are saying. My co-workers usually speak the foreign languages but I am the lip reader and signer. The up to this is we pray for your daughter and your family. I work for the Veterans Administration Hospital. They have workers who are deaf either totally or partially. They also have interpreters available in the business office. My daughter will graduate from college with a degree in Sign Language Interpretation in Dec.'07. If ther is any information from agencies, co-ops or any where else I would be glad to share with you.:balloons:

Just a note to let you know that CVS pharmacy in texas took patient records and put them in the dumpster....yeah now that is a HIPPA violation....just keep shredding labes, keeping your meds at home or locked up...there are many out there who will try anything to get drugs....keep your chin up
