Hello all,
I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.
What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.
Hey guys...thought I would stop by and see how you guys are doing. Still on pens and needles, I see...lol. I remember that feeling...not fun. BTW: Health Sciences told us that we would receive letters at the end of April or beginning of May; this was communicated to someone as late as 4/7. We received our letters 4/13. You guys will probably hear by beginning to mid September...that is unless they run in to unforeseen problems. They have to allow enough time for people to decline their seat and let alternates in prior to orientation. Then there are campus assignments, that result in more declines, and more alternates to be accepted. I think they communicate a later date to keep down the e-mail and phone call volume.
Thanks la1717! Yeah, pins and needles definitely .
It's good to hear that the explaination I got yesterday is most likely a CYA. I just can't imagine if they prolonged it to October how people would be able to plan or otherwise make adjustments before the semester started.
Freaking out!
Just got a call from the assistant to the Dean for Health Science Admissions. They were reviewing my file today and they still do not have transcripts from my first school. I checked and they mailed in on the 12th! I know HCC said they would give me extra time to get it in but OMG! I have a really bad feeling about this.

I'm glad they gave you extra time, but aren't all documents supposed to be received by the deadline?

@mjmh - Hang in there. I'm sure everything will be straightened out soon! Perhaps double check things? You could also try e-mailing [email protected] and find out your next steps. Send me a private message if you don't get things straightened out and I can give you a few e-mail addresses of people at HCC directly that might be able to help you out.
It will be OK... hang in there.
When I first moved down to Florida in 2004, I gave HCC and SPC a copy of my transcript. Now I am trying to transfer to HCC and was told initially they had that transcript already and all I needed was my high school and SPC transcript. Two weeks ago I visited HCC and was told then that because I gave the initial one to them in 2004, it was too old and they needed a new one. Not sure what they did with it. They show that they have it but don't. Seems fishy but they allowed me time to get them a brand new one. I had my old school mail it to HCC on the 12th and they show they mailed it but HCC claims they don't have it yet.
The assistant to the Dean has my direct number and has been in contact with me, but after today, when she called me back, she seemed a little concerned it wasn't there yet. I wasn't given a deadline to get the new one in. I just hope that nothing goes wrong. I am a little shocked they are reviewing applications already and thought I would have more time. Just to be safe I had my old school mail another copy but they cannot expedite the mailing of the document. I would go there and get one myself if it wasn't 2000 miles away.

From what I read then you shouldn't be worried, they just needed an updated transcript, not your fault. I KNOW it will be fixed soon:-)
@lala17 are we supposed to see the nursin classes in our progress toward degree requirements now or is it sometime before we are accepted?
I don't remember seeing the nursing classes in my progress toward degree...doesn't mean it wasn't there. I remember seeing a category that was titled something like "AS.NUR.APPL..."...this has now been changed to "AS.NUR.NURB A.S. - Nursing / A.D.N. Basic"- I think it was changed during orientation. Attending orientation is mandatory...they used the sign in sheets to change all our statuses, so that we could then register for the 1st semester. I think they add the 'APPL' category for all the applicants, so that they can view all the prereq's in one spot, and reduce human error when calculating GPA's...this is strictly a guess on my part. Does that answer your question?

Hello mjmh...Contact your old school and have them send you 2 copies of your transcript in seperate sealed envelopes via FedEx Next Day Air service to your house. Then hand deliver it to the Health Services Dept. Its going to cost you about $50 for the FedEx next day air service but it will be money well spent. Good Luck

One more thing...if you want a copy of the physical form, I can e-mail it to you...just send me a private message with your e-mail address. Keep in mind, there may be changes, but I imagine the shots will be the same.
