  1. Hey Guys, I haven't been on since the summer. I am almost finished with NP1 at PC days. I see you guys got your letters and are going to orientation very shortly. Congrats to all that got in, and keep at it to all that are still working towards it. One of the main reasons I wanted to post on here is to offer you guys some words of encouragement...mostly because you may hear some horror stories about how difficult and miserable nursing school is from students that are further ahead (NP2, 3, 4). I did, and it scared me to death. But, I chose to ignore those stories (mostly because if I didn't, I would have had a nervous break-down before I even got going good). The truth is, it is simply an adjustment. There is a ton of reading and you have to adjust to the critical thinking style questions on the exams. My toughest obstacle in the beginning was the feelings of isolation due to all the time needed to read and study. But, after a while, I adjusted and am happy to tell you that it is not as tough and grueling as you will hear. Know that there will be an adjustment period and then you will get in a groove, and will be just fine. I have 3 weeks and 2 exams left, and have an A (for the moment...lol)...it can be done. Don't beat yourself up if you don't maintain an A. C=RN...that doesn't mean that you are a slacker...many of my (very intelligent) classmates have C's. It all depends on how much you have on your plate- work, kids, etc. Anyway, I just wanted to give you guys some words of wisdom. When you hear the negative crap, IGNORE IT and push forward! Negativity breeds negativity! Believe in yourself!
  2. Attn: PC Days NSNA Members The Meeting today is at 10am. The FB event has a start time of 11am, but this is a mistake...it begins at 10am. See you all there!!!
  3. Your Hawk Card...you get the 1st one for free at your bookstore.
  4. Not sure which campus your at. PC Days has clinicals on Thursdays for the 1st 3 weeks of school...in the lab.
  5. Just thought of something...Do we have to purchase the Nursing Student Handbook at the Bookstore? I thought I read or heard something about that somewhere. Can't we just print it off the website? Why would we need to buy it? Also, when do we have to pay the "lab fee"? I have that in my notes from orientation. And, is it through Elsevier or HCC? ...just trying to tie up loose ends here...I may be totally off on some of this...I cannot remember every detail of every little thing that was addressed, and some of my notes are vague.
  6. Attention Plant City Days Students: For those of you planning to attend the NSNA meeting on Monday, 8/19, we are going to do a little meet and greet in front of the bookstore prior to the meeting. Directly following the meeting, we are planning to go the Library to do a study/review session for the first 3 chapters that were assigned. The NSNA meeting will probably be over around lunchtime, so you may want to pack a lunch. Let me know if you are interested!!!
  7. I believe Ingrid's last name is Llerena...you should be able to search for it in the hawkmail directory.
  8. So, not Chapter 10 in Clinical Calc? I wasn't sure if they said up to Ch. 10 or thru Ch. 10...my notes are unclear. Varicella Titer - I got mine at AnyLabTestNow for $49...had the results e-mailed to me within 2 days- I got mine in less than 2 days. They have locations in Brandon and Tampa...just walk in. They also have physicals (by an M.D.) for $30, but those have to be scheduled.
  9. I doubt the slight gray will matter, especially if the pants cover them. I have seen other nursing students wearing Nike tennis shoes. The shoes must be white with no funky colors and must be leather or leather-like- no canvas...Dr. Vega stressed that at orientation. They said wine pants, and didn't specify a brand. I got 1 pair of Cherokee, but I am going to order Dickies Cargo- they are a junior fit, and because I am thin, they work better for me than Misses...they also have some spandex and the material is very soft. The Dickies wine color is the same as Cherokee. I am planning to try on the Grey's Anatomy as well. I don't want to spend a ton of money on them, but I want to be comfortable...I only plan to have 2 sets to begin with, so its not too bad. Maybe you could e-mail Ingrid for clarification...if you do, let us know what she says. :)
  10. So, I sat down to glance over the syllabus, and before I knew it, I had read the whole thing...lol. A little overwhelming to take in all at once. I'm hoping we will review it, because I have a few questions already. Does anyone know what our clinical site choices are? I e-mailed, asking for a list, because I haven't seen one. I did see that she has office hours at LRMC. I thought there were several clinical site choices. I will post her response, in case anyone else needs to know.
  11. True. I'm mostly interested in clinical day and choices. I'm excited and nervous at the same time to start...it's coming up quick.
  12. So, has anyone, besides PC N/W students, heard from their instructor? I thought we were supposed to hear from them within a week or so after orientation regarding clinical choices, reading assignments, etc. I am working in my Clinical Calc book because they advised that we should at orientation.
