  1. Hey Guys, I haven't been on since the summer. I am almost finished with NP1 at PC days. I see you guys got your letters and are going to orientation very shortly. Congrats to all that got in, and keep at it to all that are still working towards it. One of the main reasons I wanted to post on here is to offer you guys some words of encouragement...mostly because you may hear some horror stories about how difficult and miserable nursing school is from students that are further ahead (NP2, 3, 4). I did, and it scared me to death. But, I chose to ignore those stories (mostly because if I didn't, I would have had a nervous break-down before I even got going good). The truth is, it is simply an adjustment. There is a ton of reading and you have to adjust to the critical thinking style questions on the exams. My toughest obstacle in the beginning was the feelings of isolation due to all the time needed to read and study. But, after a while, I adjusted and am happy to tell you that it is not as tough and grueling as you will hear. Know that there will be an adjustment period and then you will get in a groove, and will be just fine. I have 3 weeks and 2 exams left, and have an A (for the moment...lol)...it can be done. Don't beat yourself up if you don't maintain an A. C=RN...that doesn't mean that you are a slacker...many of my (very intelligent) classmates have C's. It all depends on how much you have on your plate- work, kids, etc. Anyway, I just wanted to give you guys some words of wisdom. When you hear the negative crap, IGNORE IT and push forward! Negativity breeds negativity! Believe in yourself!
  2. Attn: PC Days NSNA Members The Meeting today is at 10am. The FB event has a start time of 11am, but this is a mistake...it begins at 10am. See you all there!!!
  3. Your Hawk Card...you get the 1st one for free at your bookstore.
  4. Not sure which campus your at. PC Days has clinicals on Thursdays for the 1st 3 weeks of school...in the lab.
  5. Just thought of something...Do we have to purchase the Nursing Student Handbook at the Bookstore? I thought I read or heard something about that somewhere. Can't we just print it off the website? Why would we need to buy it? Also, when do we have to pay the "lab fee"? I have that in my notes from orientation. And, is it through Elsevier or HCC? ...just trying to tie up loose ends here...I may be totally off on some of this...I cannot remember every detail of every little thing that was addressed, and some of my notes are vague.
  6. Attention Plant City Days Students: For those of you planning to attend the NSNA meeting on Monday, 8/19, we are going to do a little meet and greet in front of the bookstore prior to the meeting. Directly following the meeting, we are planning to go the Library to do a study/review session for the first 3 chapters that were assigned. The NSNA meeting will probably be over around lunchtime, so you may want to pack a lunch. Let me know if you are interested!!!
  7. I believe Ingrid's last name is Llerena...you should be able to search for it in the hawkmail directory.
  8. So, not Chapter 10 in Clinical Calc? I wasn't sure if they said up to Ch. 10 or thru Ch. 10...my notes are unclear. Varicella Titer - I got mine at AnyLabTestNow for $49...had the results e-mailed to me within 2 days- I got mine in less than 2 days. They have locations in Brandon and Tampa...just walk in. They also have physicals (by an M.D.) for $30, but those have to be scheduled.
  9. I doubt the slight gray will matter, especially if the pants cover them. I have seen other nursing students wearing Nike tennis shoes. The shoes must be white with no funky colors and must be leather or leather-like- no canvas...Dr. Vega stressed that at orientation. They said wine pants, and didn't specify a brand. I got 1 pair of Cherokee, but I am going to order Dickies Cargo- they are a junior fit, and because I am thin, they work better for me than Misses...they also have some spandex and the material is very soft. The Dickies wine color is the same as Cherokee. I am planning to try on the Grey's Anatomy as well. I don't want to spend a ton of money on them, but I want to be comfortable...I only plan to have 2 sets to begin with, so its not too bad. Maybe you could e-mail Ingrid for clarification...if you do, let us know what she says. :)
  10. So, I sat down to glance over the syllabus, and before I knew it, I had read the whole thing...lol. A little overwhelming to take in all at once. I'm hoping we will review it, because I have a few questions already. Does anyone know what our clinical site choices are? I e-mailed, asking for a list, because I haven't seen one. I did see that she has office hours at LRMC. I thought there were several clinical site choices. I will post her response, in case anyone else needs to know.
  11. True. I'm mostly interested in clinical day and choices. I'm excited and nervous at the same time to start...it's coming up quick.
  12. So, has anyone, besides PC N/W students, heard from their instructor? I thought we were supposed to hear from them within a week or so after orientation regarding clinical choices, reading assignments, etc. I am working in my Clinical Calc book because they advised that we should at orientation.
  13. I don't think it matters...I have seen nursing students on campus with all white leather tennis shoes.
  14. I don't remember seeing the nursing classes in my progress toward degree...doesn't mean it wasn't there. I remember seeing a category that was titled something like "AS.NUR.APPL..."...this has now been changed to "AS.NUR.NURB A.S. - Nursing / A.D.N. Basic"- I think it was changed during orientation. Attending orientation is mandatory...they used the sign in sheets to change all our statuses, so that we could then register for the 1st semester. I think they add the 'APPL' category for all the applicants, so that they can view all the prereq's in one spot, and reduce human error when calculating GPA's...this is strictly a guess on my part. Does that answer your question?
  15. See if you have anything outstanding on ”my documents”. You should probably go see them right away. I was late getting my info in ( 7/1....I had trouble with my IRS electronic filling), and my award letter showed up 7/15.
  16. Hey guys...thought I would stop by and see how you guys are doing. Still on pens and needles, I see...lol. I remember that feeling...not fun. BTW: Health Sciences told us that we would receive letters at the end of April or beginning of May; this was communicated to someone as late as 4/7. We received our letters 4/13. You guys will probably hear by beginning to mid September...that is unless they run in to unforeseen problems. They have to allow enough time for people to decline their seat and let alternates in prior to orientation. Then there are campus assignments, that result in more declines, and more alternates to be accepted. I think they communicate a later date to keep down the e-mail and phone call volume. One more thing...if you want a copy of the physical form, I can e-mail it to you...just send me a private message with your e-mail address. Keep in mind, there may be changes, but I imagine the shots will be the same.
  17. I'm PC days...still no word on clinical choices, or any communication, for that matter. Has anyone else heard anything?
  18. Wow. Where did you get them? Did you also purchase the simulations package (I think they are key codes)?
  19. How much were they? I bought a pair of Dansko several years ago (for casual wear), and I liked them, except they are very stiff...I typically like a softer leather. They were comfortable other than that. Are the nursing shoes a softer leather? I bought a white, leather band watch...it has regular and military time marks on it.
  20. I bought Cherokee tops and bottoms at Uniform Connection in Lakeland (that's where I live)...they were about $30 a set...I also got my shoes there- Nurse Mates - on sale for $56. I actually got my stethoscope, watch, pin light, scissors, etc there also. Not too bad...I'm sure there may be some better prices on-line...I just wasn't sure about sizing, so I wanted to try them on. I bought a much smaller size than I would have thought, so be sure to try some on somewhere before you purchase on-line.
  21. I am also PC days, and haven't received anything yet from our instructor. I looked at the Nursing Student Manual, but I didn't see what you read about the health insurance...I think I am looking in the wrong place. Can you tell me what you are looking at? (Where it is located, and the title of the doc?) I am interested in a med discount plan that covers emergency and hospitalization (those are the specifics that were mentioned in orientation). The lowest plan I have found is $98 a month...the deductible is pretty high...I would end up paying out of pocket for common treatment. Have you gotten a quote and if so, who did you contact? And, where can I get more info on the gov't insurance plan for pell grant qualifiers? Sorry to ask so many questions...LOL...I have been stressing over this insurance thing.
  22. My FA advisor looked at my academic record and then told me to hold onto the pprwk, as it shouldn't be necessary to actually file the appeal at this time. She said that all nursing students end up in this situation (having to file an appeal) before they are actually scheduled for the nursing course. If you haven't heard anything, I would go to FA and have them look into it.
