Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

Because I am a transfer student, the system still thinks I need pre-reqs done still.

Can someone direct me to the link for the required Titer/Immunizations? Thnx

No problem!;-)

Well, I got a reply back from the Health Sciences Department about why my transcript was listed odd in WebAdvisor:

Good afternoon Mr. XXXXX,

Thank you for submitting Health Sciences application for the Nursing Basic Spring 2014 Program. Regarding your high school transcript, when your transcript was entered into the system your school was not recognize by the system by its name that is why is coded like an "Out of Country High School". However, this does not affect your Nursing application in any way. The important thing is that your official XXXXX High School transcript was received by HCC before the deadline date of June 1st, 2013.

When Health Sciences Admissions staff begin to process your application you will see codes concerning your Nursing application in the Web Advisor. Each document is marked as "Not Received", shows a blank space, or "ASAP" message until it has been reviewed by the Health Science Team.

The remainder of the e-mail talked about the standard "after the deadline date, we are unable to give you any detailed or status information concerning your application" line and hurry up and be patient. However, I thought this line was interesting:

We expect our official response to the students that applied to the Nursing Spring 2014 Program towards to the end of September or mid October 2013. No further responses to student inquiries will be made until then.

Ack! End of September or Mid October?!? I'm going to need a hobby or something..

Hang tough fellow applicants...

Lol wow!! I'm pretty sure that it will be before, they probably say that as a just in case type thing. But I'm glad your transcript isn't an issue!

Man I hope so! This wait thing is for the birds. Thanks re: transcript - I was worried about it. My life is an exercise in Murphy's Law, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to make my application uncompetitive.

Trust me I know how you feel,my journey here has not been an easy one,I'm just glad it will be over soon.

Deltacrux, do you work at TGH ?

End of September-mid October what the heck??? I thought it was like 8-12 weeks max since the June 1st deadline???

My wife does. I volunteer there every other weekend for experience. We were able to confirm that volunteers can take the CPR class for the employee price.

Yeah; that's what I thought too. However, Juleby might be right when she said that might just be their standard line to 'cover their behind' in-case anything goes wrong. I have noticed though (by reading other threads here) that HCC does tend to, uhh, drag their feet a bit? :cautious:

There really has to be a better way of doing this sort of thing.. it just seems so convoluted and political.
