Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

HelloAll,

Hope everyone is doing well. Time is moving along and we are getting closer to the big day. We have about 7 or 8 weeks remaining before acceptance letters begin to go out. I just started gathering my immunization shot history from my previous physicians and made an appointment with my current PCP. I wanted to get the process of taking the required immunization shots started early so I'm not scrambling later to get everything done. I know, its a little premature since I haven't even been officially accepted into the program yet. I figured since i have a 4.0 pre-req GPA I have a fairly good chance of getting in so why wait until the last minute. Has anyone else already started, or am I the only crazy person?

Naah, you're not crazy FX. I'm doing similar things and having to go through a few states to get them all collected. If my math is correct, I'm probably due for more than a few of them as well. I'm also waiting for HCC to post their fall schedule for CPR classes to see if they are cheaper than TGH.

I figure (similar to you) that I don't want to be scrambling all the while trying to finish up my Allied Health degree this fall.

Fun times. :woot:

All my docs are officially received since this afternoon!!!! Yay

WooHoo! Congrats Juleby! That's awesome. Even though it's a small milestone, celebrate the heck out of it.. you're officially on your way to becoming an RN!

Thanks I appreciate it!! I was just told by fx that the hep shots have to be done over a 6 month period so I guess I'm starting this month!

Oh crap. I better get on it as well! Do you know the schedule of titration? Is it an initial shot w/ a 3 month booster?

It's an initial shot and then one month later you get second dose them 5 months later you get third, you can't get it before 5 months.

Hmm. I wonder how much the health department charges? It might be cheaper than going through my PCP

I think the health dept is $68 each dose something like that. Maybe your pcp would be cheaper.

Good DayAll,

Here is the link to the Tampa Health Dept web site containing the price list for immunization shots. I don’t know if its cheaper then going through you PCP,but at least you can get an idea of the cost involved and plan accordingly. http://www.hillscountyhealth.org/absolutenm/templates/?a=18&z=8

The cost can add up quickly for those that need to take them and don’t have insurance, so if you start early you can spread the cost out over time instead of shelling out all that money at one time. From reading prior post i found out that expenses can amount to about $1500 when you include shots, scrubs, supplies, and books. Remember, we will be doing all that during the holiday season and its hard to find an extra $1500 around the holiday season when you have a family.

This is very true. I spoke with my Dr.'s office yesterday and also spoke with United Healthcare. I will definitely be going through my provider to get these done rather than the Health Department. United seems to cover some of them as low as $5.00 an injection!

Now, if health insurance would only pay for my textbooks as well.... :roflmao:

We are at about 7 to 8 weeks left,I'm going to now start saving up money for books/uniforms/supplies. I just started a new part time job which helps a lot in the saving process. How are you all doing, anything interesting happen this summer?

Finishing summer classes, getting ready for Fall semester, trying to distract myself (not working) until letters are sent out, and stressing over my last three "Due ASAP" items on WebAdvisor. Oh, and trolling AN.COM :barf02:
