I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.
What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.
HCC is my first college experience,however I love the small class sizes,the friendly environment and the price per credit hour lol It's jut the right fit for me,when its time for me to transfer at least the rn-bsn program at usf can mostly be done online thankfully.
I agree Juleby. USF online RN-BSN is my plan after graduation as well. I'm hoping to work per diem as an RN while going through the online program full time. From what i understand it's mostly managerial and organizational classes.

I am not sure which SPC professors you talked to, but SPC is ranked in the top 10 in the US of nursing schools in the college section number 7 (Not UNIVERSITY)
I would definitely be interested in seeing the resource behind that!!! :) I spoke to my biology and anatomy professors, who both stated that i would be better off at HCC or doing the USF second degree nursing program if I found that I could quit my job and live off loans, considering how intense that program is. I have also spoken to people in both programs, and those who have graduated from both programs (nurses at my current job), and HCC simply sounds AWESOME!!!! I'm sure both programs are EQUALLY as fantastic though. Cheers!!

Agreed, jragghianti. Through my three-and-a-half semesters of Biology and A&P at HCC, I have grown quite fond of two of my professors (My A&P I and A&P II lecture professor, and my A&P I lab and Biology professor). These are two people that have fueled my interest in the medical profession as well as nursing. They have both literally gone 'above and beyond' their job requirements as professors and nurtured me as an individual.
SPC was similar; my Nutrition and Drugs professor was incredible and helped me intimately understand the link between what we stick in our mouths and overall human health. Additionally, my Human Lifespan and Development professor gave me undivided attention after hours to help me understand the nuances of psychosocial development.
Both programs would most likely rock in my opinion. However, I think HCC fits my learning style a little better than SPC, just knowing both sets of culture between the two schools.

Hello everyone! I have been following this thread for awhile and figured I would pop in and say hello. I too applied for the spring '14 nursing program. I am actually getting a little worried because nothing has shown up under 'My Documents', but I know they received my application because they cashed my check. :) This waiting is giving me anxiety. lol

I understand the anxiety, trust me! I check about 2x daily to see if things have been marked off. I keep telling myself it will get there eventually.
ahh, see mine doesn't even show that... just the financial aid docs. I am getting worried.
Might want to give the Health Sciences department a call and see if they could give you any additional information. I wouldn't worry too bad yet though, I have a buddy that doesn't have anything listed as well and he turned in his application two seconds after I did.
