Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

I went there today and found out that I wrong information. I was told that HCC had all transcripts (1 high school, 1 from SPC and 1 from a college up north). Today I found out that since the transcript from up north was given to HCC in 2004, it was too old and they needed a new one. So now I am freaking out even though the assistant to the Dean said it would be no problem.

Wow. I hope you raised he** about that. Definitely (like FX said) keep a log of who you talk to and the date/time.

I am beginning to think I might need to enroll in that second ethics course this semester in case I need to apply at SPC as a backup. There are quite a few threads here stating how HCC was a little lax in transcript processing and evaluation of applicants GPAs. It is starting to make me wonder about my listing in WebAdvisor for my HS transcript as 'out of country'. *rolls eyes* Alaska is a state people...

Oh well.. I'm going to my happy place now and stop worrying until I can call on Monday. :speechless:

I still have the two as ASAP so I'm just waiting for those, but I know the hcc application and prereqs are there because I've been going to HCC for two years so I'm not worried.

OMG, yesterday I got this envelope by mail from the HCC Health Sciences Department and my heart stopped beating.

Small Envelope equals Bad NEWS, Big Envelope-Good News, so I, very scared, opened the envelope to find my transcript from HCC With This label: "You already submitted your transcripts and the Health Science Department has access to them, Thank you"

You don't have to worry letters don't come til mid September, just relax for now:-)

I'm trying to relax very hard but I'm afraid that it's not working

Hehe. I would have most likely been slightly nervous but confused as well, knowing that decisions were not due until September. Heck, at this point anything in the mail from HCC (even those odd Dean's List letters they send out) would make my heart skip a bit.

Like ya'll, I'm trying to relax as well and it's not working. I find myself reading AllNurses quite a bit lately and even looking at Dosing Calculation books on Amazon. I'm starting to worry about myself.

Hello!! I'm also glad that someone posted a thread for spring 2014. :) I'm just getting the remainder of my application together and hope to turn it in next week. My pre-req GPA is a 3.52.

And yes, 3.3 was the lowest GPA accepted last spring!!! I spoke to an advisor as well at HCC and was told the same information. :) I've also been reading posts on this site from spring 2013 applicants and people with GPAs as low as 3.45 were accepted in the first round, not even as alternates, so it seems like we all have an awesome chance.

I currently attend SPC and graduated from USF and was told (by many SPC professors!!) that the HCC program is superior to the SPC program.

Good luck everyone!!! :) Just relax after the application is in; all we can do after that is wait. :)

I am not sure which SPC professors you talked to, but SPC is ranked in the top 10 in the US of nursing schools in the college section number 7 (Not UNIVERSITY)

I cant speak for SPC since ive never attened any classes there, nor do i know anyone who has been through their nursing program, but I assume they have a preety good nursing program. With that said, can you provide the link or articale that ranks SPC in the top 10 in the US of nursing schools in the college section number 7 (Not UNIVERSITY)? I would like to see that.

I've taken a few classes at SPC, and have generally found the quality comparable to what I have received at HCC. It would not surprise me if SPC was listed, but I don't know how well I see them in the top 10 in the US. However, I have not seen the report..

As a side note, I took some BSN pre-req's at USF a few semesters back and was shocked at the difference between the quality of instruction I received in contrast to HCC and SPC. For the price per credit hour, USF just isn't worth it outside of a program concentration IMHO.

I actually had a Professor show up for a lab class at USF wasted.. literally. He was slurring his speech, making no sense, and attempting to hit on the girls all class. He kept mentioning how he was just a "glorified babysitter". This happened twice and quite a few students went to the Dean about it.

I've had some 'special' professors at HCC, but they were (most likely) sober. :roflmao:

HCC is my first college experience, however I love the small class sizes, the friendly environment and the price per credit hour lol It's jut the right fit for me,when its time for me to transfer at least the rn-bsn program at usf can mostly be done online thankfully.
