Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

Well, I feel a little bit better than. LOL Hi Juleby1987!!!

Good afternoon everyone!

One quick question, is it a requirement or a recommendation that students have health insurance?

@ deltacrux did they cash your friends check though? They cashed mine but no updates yet. Although I know there are hundreds of app to go through.

Yup. HCC did cash his check.

As for re: hundreds of apps - Interesting link (http://www.hccfl.edu/media/791535/program enrollment comparisons - term 3yr - fall 2012.pdf) - This shows the headcount per program in both applicants and students. Apparently, for Fall 2012 there were 223 nursing student applicants.

Yes, I know I have too much darn time on my hands. :smokin:

From what I have read in the nursing student handbook, (http://www.hccfl.edu/media/732692/nursingmanual2012-2013.pdf) health insurance is a requirement.

I would definitely think insurance is not only a requirement, but that you would not want to be without it! Every clinical you would be putting yourself at risk, and God forbid something were to happen, would you really want to run the risk of having an enormous pile of bills from an emergency room visit or follow up doctor visits? There are plenty of cheap health insurance out there for students. If you look I'm sure you can find something.

mjmh - A few friends of mine use United Healthcare's plans for Students (https://www.uhcsr.com/) and have had nothing but good things to say about them. The plans are relatively cheap (nothing is ever real cheap in healthcare!) and have decent coverage. They also allow you to defer payments on occasion until your Student Aid refunds come through. It might be something worth checking out.

Thank you so much!

The health insurance link he gave you is good, that's the health insurance plan we use for all 4 in our family and it has good doctors but its not as expensive as other plans.

Wow, interesting info. Spoke to the health sciences dept and she said it takes 8-12 weeks to process and they usually get about 450-500 applicants lol they said they have my ap, but a file hasn't been created yet. They also said mail notifications will be sent out end of September or beginning of October, hopefully she put that just to prevent me from calling back because it seems like all previous classes got theirs mid sept. lol I guess I shall just try and wait for them to make progress on mine :)

Awesome. At least you know they have your app and that they are processing it! Now the long wait until September..

HelloAll,

Hope everyone is doing well. Time is moving along and we are getting closer to the big day. We have about 7 or 8 weeks remaining before acceptance letters begin to go out. I just started gathering my immunization shot history from my previous physicians and made an appointment with my current PCP. I wanted to get the process of taking the required immunization shots started early so I'm not scrambling later to get everything done. I know, its a little premature since I haven't even been officially accepted into the program yet. I figured since i have a 4.0 pre-req GPA I have a fairly good chance of getting in so why wait until the last minute. Has anyone else already started, or am I the only crazy person?

Well I have my shot record,I found it a few weeks ago I just need my shots, but I won't get them until/if I get accepted.
