Try to relax and enjoy your holiday break because once you start NP1 its full speed ahead for the next 2 years. Welcome to the HCC Nursing program.

hillsborough community college SPRING 2015
Hello All, Just wanted to take a moment (between study sessions) to welcome you all to the HCC Nursing program. As our colleague lovelylioness23 stated, make sure you get your books early and start reading and getting familiar with the material as soon as possible. NP1 can be challenging for many because the nursing program requires a completely new way of thinking. Things are no longer black or white, but many shades of grey, and there is almost always more then one correct answer to the questions being asked. Enough for now, I must get back to studying for finals & HESI coming up soon. Good Luck to you all.

Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014
My class just finished NP1 on Monday and we're now enjoying a much needed break. NP1 (Nursing Fundamentals) is not an easy class, especially if you dont have a medical background. Nursing school is just different from any other class you've taken in the past and it requires FULL TIME dedication if you want to do well. If you plan on working during nursing school it will be very challenging, it can be done, (Im doing it) but it will NOT be easy. Your instructor will have a lot to do with it too. My class had a new instructor so we went through some growing pains throughout the semester that made it very tough on many of my classmates (me included). But we all survived and are now looking forward to NP2 and a fresh start in the Fall so thats a good thing. Enjoy your summer break because once you start there will be very little free time for anything else. Good Luck....

Hi lovelylioness23, Other then your uniforms the only thing you will need is a basic Stethoscope & pen light. Don't go crazy purchasing the real fancy/expensive stethoscope. I like the Littmann Classic II ($75.00) anything more expensive then that is over-kill for a student nurse. Check out the allheart.com website, they have a good selection and the prices are pretty good.

Hi karikari1213, It all depends on your clinical instructor as to what time they want you onsite for clinical assignments. I was at TGH this semester and we all met in the cafeteria at or before 06:30 so we could be on the floor for shift change reporting before 07:00. I hope that helps.

Hello all, I know the wait is driving you guys nuts. If it helps i can tell you that our letters arrived on a Saturday exactly 17 weeks from the deadline date. Im pretty sure the last couple entry classes also all got them on a Saturday. I seams like it was just yesterday that i was in your shoes waiting for my acceptance letter and and now my class is approaching the end of our NP1 session. Its been quite a challenge for us all and we are very much looking forward to summer break.....:)

Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014
Hello future HCC nursing Students, Just wanted to give you guys a little heads up. The initial wave off acceptance letters always arrive on a Saturday, dont ask me why, they just do. I know you guys must be tired of waiting and want to see those letters arrive already. I was the same way, the wait drove me CRAZY!! I had my poor mail lady scared of me because i would look for her everyday throughout the neighborhood to see if she had my letter yet...:) I will email those of you that requested the immunization form privately later today with the form.

Hi Sana214....Depending on your Pre-Req GPA. If you feel confident that you have a good chance of being accepted, it would be a good idea to start learning how to think as a nursing student. Nursing school is a TOTALY different BEAST. Applying critical thinking & rationales are the foundation of nursing school. Almost every test question has 2 or more correct answer and you must use critical thinking to choose which answer takes priority over the other. Its NOTHING like what you are doing now in your regular classes. Go to Barns & Nobles or Amazon and buy the "Fundamentals Success Applying Critical Thinking to test taking" book by Patricia M Nugent & Barbera A. Vitale. Read that book over the summer to get yourself familiar with the type of questions you will be seeing once you start the program. Other then that just try to relax and enjoy your time off this summer. Spend as much time with the people in your life that are important to you and enjoy yourself. Nursing school is VERY demmanding and your free time will be extreamly limited once you start. ****Also, for all those 4.0 students out there that think they know everything, get ready for a wake up call. Nursing school has a way of humbling you real fast as it did to me. Forget about getting an A, B, or C, in nursing school its all about getting your points and reaching that magic # 285pts so you can move on to the next class. :) Good Luck..

Hello Sana214....I will send you the immunization form. Its a good idea to get started on that as soon as you can to get it out of the way. There will be alot to do once you guys receive your acceptance letters. Good Luck....Get plenty of rest and enjoy your summer break because once you guys start its going to be non stop work, work, and more work all semester.

@ bla bla bla...Juleby...What are you doing scaring our future classmates? Hello All, Juleby and i are in the same NP1 class together and have been lab partners through out all or class's leading upto NP1 so i can abuse her a little bit..:-) It was not to long ago we were in your shoes so i know how you feel. Like Juleby said, try and read the book "Critical Thinking Fundamentals Success" you can get it at the DM book store. It will help you to prepare for the types of questions you will see once you are in the program. Also, try and get all your shots, cpr cert and all that stuff done early. Not long after orientation you will begin to get reading assignments from your teachers and then the fun begins. Ok...enough for today. I need to get back to studying for tomorrows test.
